It's been pretty well reported that Briere wants a full teardown so yeah, Konecny can be had for the right price. I would be more willing to give up Luneau, LaCombe or Vaakanainen (not all 3 of course, just one of them) and a pick (or 2). The thing about Konecny in general is that he's a good example of a later 1st round pick hitting and there are some potential late first rounders in this draft that I think could hit as well. Tough call but a UFA acquisition should be the first priority.

    Lacombe

    EDM 1st

+ another pick or C-B prospect

Yeah, he may jump all over that for 4 years.  No idea.  And that could be the best deal he can get, because not every team will have the flexibility cap-wise that the Ducks will this summer and in the next few seasons.

The risk is those final 2 years. That’s when the RFAs are getting paid, I think they can manage fine, but it could get hairy when you’re paying

Strome 5 million for 1 year

Killorn 6.25 million for 1 year

And then add Marchessault/Stamkos around 5.5-8 million for 2 more years

    could get tight pretty quickly

I think I like Marchessault and Stamkos just about the same. March has better underlying metrics,  but Stamkos has that lethal shot the Ducks could absolutely use.

One, the first part is a joke. Hahaha. In no way is it serious.

Two, I go on to explain why to stay away from Laine and who the most realistic targets are. The FA's could be targets, but there will be others in on them and there is probably a very good chance none of those top FA choose Anaheim unfortunately.

And I made a good case for why Laine makes sense. There’s cases for and against every player. The two you chose are two of the most difficult to obtain, both Necas and Konecny are not coming here cheap.
Necas has had 1 season of top 6 production, maybe 2 if you think 50 points is okay production from a top 6 winger. First you have to trade him, then you have to pay him.
Konecny I think is better than Necas and fits more of the team identity, he’s produced slightly better than Necas, but has also had trouble staying healthy and going to be expensive probably and you have to resign him as he’s a UFA after next season

again I put him down because pretty much anyone on that list is someone that I would be pretty good with adding and understand why you would add them.

Laine despite being kind of painted as disappointing has out produced both Necas and Konecny for most of his career. Again, it’s just a matter of preference.

It’s also not exactly controversial to say that you talk to people pretty poorly on this board.

Philly had such a wild season. The Gauthier trade, Carter hart, couturier drama and they missed the playoffs on the last game of the season. They exceeded expectations by a lot. Do they not fully blow it up now? Trading konecny would certainly indicate they are. I’ll be fascinated to see what they do.

Id look into Konecny also for futures if they are trying to trade him. Our own firsts and Zegras, Leo, cutter lol, McTavish, minty, luneau, zellweger are all off the table. He’s only got one year left on his deal

I love Konecny, if they could swing that type of deal, I’d be ecstatic.

Well if we are just identifying players that we like that we wish to come to the Ducks, then add McDavid, Draisaitl, and Bedard to your list. Those guys would look good in Ducks colors and likely only cost a mid pick and player like Lacombe or Fowler to get them.

In all seriousness, I would stay far, far away from Laine. He has shown nothing since he left the Jets, other then it would be another team trading him away this early in his career. High salary too with nothing to back it up the last few years besides injuries. He is a hard pass at $8mil per season. At $4mil for a year, might be worth a try, but not his current length and salary.

I see Necas and Konecny as realistic targets.

I swear man, once you learn to speak to people in less of a condescending way, the world is your oyster!

It’s a little more intentional than random wishful thinking. 5 of them are FA and the others are assortments of players who have publicly been on the outs to varying degrees and/or players on rebuilding teams or on a team that might be rebuilding.

As for Laine, I agree he’s probably overpayed, but his contract is irrelevant to anyone not named Henry and/or Susan Samueli. It’s for 2 more seasons after this. Ducks are porbably flirting with the cap floor next season and it’s up before any of the big RFAs need to be paid. That actually helps the ducks case as they’re one of the only teams that can take the full cap hit and not need to ask for retention. Maine has been just about a PPG player for Columbus outside of this last year. Just hasn’t been able to stay healthy. He has warts,  but he’s 26 and fits in with the age of the core, wicked shot, shoots right handed and is big. I think most of the guys available are probably going to have some level of warts.

  6. So targets that meet the basic RH Top 6 Winger that can be realistic targets.

    Martin Necas - trade

    Patrik Laine - trade

    Steven Stamkos - FA

    Jonathan Marchessault - FA

    Mitch Marner - trade

    Sam Reinhart - FA

    Viktor Arvidsson - FA

    Tyler Toffoli - FA

Complete guess territory based in guessing if a team might be start rebuilding or willing to trade an established winger

    Kyle Palmieri

Travis Konecny - really doubt this one, but man he’s a Verbeek guy

most of these are just guesses to varying degrees. So spare the “this guy would never come here” that gets posted any time anyone identifies a player they like

Does there need to be. It’s a pretty good comparison. If you need evidence of a veteran cup winning leader coming to a new team and making a huge impact, look no further than Scotty. Stamkos could do the same thing.

I mean it’s one guy, who was arguably one of the best to ever do it a locked in leader. I’m not saying Stamkos isn’t that, but I’m not crossing my fingers that guys are Niedermeyer level adds to this team lol

No you couldnt honestly. I saw Killorn coming to the Ducks from a mile away and both him and Gudas seem to me are guys that would take a big pay day over winning as neither one of them has made huge earnings during their playing careers as they weren't star players. Stamkos and Marchessault have made huge earnings and likely would rather win again before they retire so will take less for the opportunity instead of coming here, kind of like what Corey Perry does every year with a contender. Made his money with the Ducks now signs for cheap with teams that can win.

Money talks, it always does. It’s being close minded to assume it doesn’t.

Guarantee Stamkos or Marchessault are not Ducks next year. Nice to dream, but both players will look to play on better teams and win the cup to end their careers. I would even expect both to take less money for a chance to win as they have made their career earnings already, instead of riding into the sunset on a rebuilding team that won't be in the playoffs before those 3-4 year contracts are up.

Could’ve said the same thing for Killorn and Gudas

  10. Gauthier - Carlsson - Marchessault

    Killorn - Zegras - Terry

    Vatrano - McTavish - Strome

I think that gives you a top 9 of guys who can play anywhere and you can mix and match until you find something that works, so it doesn’t even have to look like this. Question is do you feel comfortable giving 3-4 years for Marchessault? I could talk myself into it, but it’s not my favorite thing. It’s either him or Stamkos in FA, obviously outside of Necas there’s not really been any smoke on trade targets so I don’t really know who could be an option.

I really think this version of the team could be a playoff contender.

  11. I wonder if you could get him at 3x7.5-8. aAV would be real high, but the term better. Ducks have about 2 more years of freedom to kind of just pay whoever whatever, but then all thrbRFAs are due. In 3 years they kind of get second wind with Fowler, Killorn, Gudas, Strome, Gibson coming off the books in the next 2-3 years, which is about 20 million. You could get away with 4x7 but it’ll be a risk.

  12. What does a fair contract for Marchessault look like?

He’s interesting, about a 60-65 point player 25-30 goal scorer, with two outlier years, one being this year with 42 goals and 69 points. Metrics are better than Stamkos, but hasn’t ever had the counting stats Stamkos has had. He’ll be 34 in December. Marchessault made comments around the TDL about trying to set his family up well. So he’s looking to get paid with term. 5mil per year is the most he’s ever gotten. I would guess he’s probably around Terry’s contract. I don’t know the guy, but based on the comments, I’d assume he’d probably go where he gets term.

oh right, i do agree with all this....but the main point im trying to bring up is Z BEHIND the net. I just don't know how a PK defends that. They could take away all his passing options, and ok, so he just does the Michigan and scores. I dunno, doesn't that sound like a goal 9x out of 10??? I guess they could chase him from behind the net, but then that completely dismantles their PK set up.

Oh yeah! But even in the small sample size, I did like his vision and he looks like he could have some really good hockey sense, too, which could mean Cutter could end up being a VERY good player for us.

this 1000000%. He thinks he's McDavid out there. But he passes when he should shoot, and carries the puck when he should pass...I saw him accomplish it once all season....against the Sharks....so essentially minor league D. TT didn't seem like a guy who could hang with the best last season.

I liked what I saw of Cutter's one game, personally. I just saw potential. Obviously the execution wasn't entirely there, but I saw more than just a shooter.

Cutter really added the play making in college this year. All good shooters have to adapt as teams play their shot more, I’m really excited for Gauthier.

The only young guy he didn’t mention was mintyukov. Maybe he just wasn’t specifically asked about him. Had some praise for zellweger and playing is off side.  Really liked colangelo.

when it comes to the draft. I have no confidence on predicting what he’ll do if Leshunov is off the board and we don’t get Macklin

Lindstrom is my guess. Checks a lot of boxes the Ducks like typically.
