  1. I agree. You´d think with a rising cap and all the space that we have we´d be in a prime position to sign anyone we want but it seems like the rising cap is working against us. All those guys who want to bet on themselves to make more money next year aren´t gonna come here because they think they can put up better numbers elsewhere. And maybe the guys we have to sign (Zegras, Terry, Drysdale) also want a chunk of that extra money that comes available. I thought PV was going to have it easy with those contract negotiations but I don´t think that´s the case. I can totally see Zegras being cocky enough to say give me a bridge and I´m gonna get 2 mil more in 2 years than what you´re offering right now. I can see why PV would be reluctant to do so. Players should earn their contract and not ask more just because the cap rises. I wouldn´t mind bridging Zegras but I really hope Terry gets locked long term although those chances are fading by the day every day his hearing comes closer. It really shouldn´t come to that. That would be a real knock on PV unless Terry´s ask is so outrageous. Whatever happens I hope it happens quickly so we get an idea where we´re at capwise and that PV can pencil in more moves.
  2. Signing Dostal for 2 years at 812.5k AAV is quite brilliant IMO. Being it two-way in year 1 gives us flexibility and doesn´t put too much pressure on the kid. Great signing by PV.
  3. We have been bad the past few years. Everybody on this board will acknowledge that. But we do have things to be excited about. We don´t know what we have in Cronin but Eakins is finally gone. There´s a few other faces in the staff as well. We´re finally going to see some of the kids play (for a longer period) on the big team: LaCombe, Helleson, Groulx, maybe Zellweger or Mintyukov. While I - and I guess everybody else - hope(s) we´ll add some more players we´ve signed two welcome additions in Killorn and Gudas. We didn´t get him but we at least know PV was interested in Debrincat. It´s obvious he didn´t want to be here so it wasn´t going to happen but I´m glad to know our GM is trying something. We still have a long way to go but unless Cronin is Eakins 2.0 we are already a better team than last season. On a personal note - and you won´t like it - I´m glad Gibson is still here and I hope he stays. I´m a fan and we have nobody to step in as far as I know. Give him a chance behind a hopefully better team. It´s a lot of hoping but I´m more positive about this team than I have been in a while. And I think you can be too if you look past the Gibson issue. I can understand you don´t like the guy for whatever reason but Gibson was never the cause of the abysmal state of our team.
  4. That´s pretty terrible from edmonton´s POV. I also don´t know whether they have enough faith in skinner to be the starter. In any somewhat realistic deal campbell comes back and we add to get Bouchard.
  5. Good signing. A small one but a good one. Gives him a chance to show us he can step in the 4th line center role. If he can´t, time to move on for both parties.
  6. I hate this time of the year. The draft has been held. Free agency frenzy has passed. There are no arbitration hearings (which isn´t all that exciting unless it´s someone from your own team) and it´s the same rumors every day. This year it´s Karlsson to pittsburgh and where is hellebuyck gonna end up? Has anybody read or heard anything regarding us? I know PV said there was more to come and the summer is still long but he still has a lot on his plate to complete before october, preferably september because I want a full roster before training camp starts.
  7. It´s still a lottery. While not drafted 1st overall Griffin Reinhart was a bust. Also an Islander, Michael Dal Colle. Maybe he can still find a spot somewhere but it´s not looking good for Puljujarvi. And how about our own 5th overall pick Stanislav Chistov? Sometimes for whatever reason it doesn´t work out. I remember back in the day when we drafted Emerson Etem I looked at his numbers in the WHL and I was excited as hell. Also on his team back then were Linden Vey and Hunter Shinkaruk ripping it up. In the NHL not so much.
  8. I´m just comparing to what our standard has been over the last several years. While Ceci isn´t the best D man out there he´d be an upgrade over a lot of guys we´ve seen on our blue line lately. The money isn´t crazy and the term is perfect. In 2 years one of the kids will probably be ready to step in fulltime.
  9. Calling PV our worst GM at this point is pretty silly. After this summer we´ll at least have something to judge him on.
  10. I´m in the sign Dumba camp but it´s pretty lilely he doesn´t end up in Anaheim. If he doesn´t would Cody Ceci be a welcome addition? He´s had a rough playoffs but he´s not a bad player. He´s big and he´s a righty. The oilers still have to fill out their roster because they only have 20 guys signed. They´re a little under 6 mil below the cap and have Bouchard to re-sign. Ceci has 2 years remaining at 3.25 mil.
  11. I don´t think there´s another option. They have a little over 2 mil in cap space at the moment. Unless they trade somebody who makes a considerable amount they can´t offer him a lot. Even moving Goodrow out won´t tip the balance by a lot because they´d have to take some salary back. So that would leave them with say 5 mil and a rosterspot still open. If any team wants to screw the rangers now is the time.
  12. The rangers can go the Kakko route with Laf. 2 years at 2.1 AAV. That leaves them with about 6 dollars in cap space. Goodrow is the one they probably want to move. Or Panarin and his 11 mil who was basically a no show in the Playoffs. Wouldn´t that be something? Then they can sign Tarasenko and Kane. Aren´t we looking for a LW? 😄
  13. I don't think anybody wants to trade Drysdale but in the very unlikely scenario where arizona would trade Keller to a divisional rival we'd have to give up something of value. Unless a package of picks gets it done, Drysdale becomes a very likely candidate. While not necessarily the same type of D man Helleson, Luneau & Warren are all righties. Unless they are all busts I think we can overcome losing Drysdale. Not to mention, while lefties, we still have Zellweger and Mintyukov. Having said that, I don't want to trade him right away. I'm very curious to see what he can after last year and playing for a hopefully decent coach. But should the opportunity present itself to use him in a package for a really good winger like Keller or Nylander I think I'd pull the trigger.
  14. Arizona should really have to think hard over a package containing Drysdale. And what´s the condition on the proposed 1st? I´d move our 24 1st without a condition for Keller. Especially if we could add Dumba. This team with Keller and Dumba isn´t going to end in the bottom 5 unless Cronin is the 2nd coming of Dallas Eakins. But I don´t think arizona bites on pastujov or perreault and I don´t want to give up Gaucher. If Drysdale + 2024 1st (unprotected) + 2024/2025 2nd gets it done I´m all for it. I´d throw in Lundestrom too if needed but again I don´t know if that would be enticing enough for arizona.
  15. Probably still an upgrade over 80% of our D the past 3 years.
  16. We don´t have to be a contender next season but we have to take steps in becoming better. Adding Gudas was a good move in that regard. I´m not too familiar with Hagg but from reading he seems to be more of a 7th D man. Something we have had plenty of these last few years. Icing a defense of Fowler, Gudas, Drysdale, Hagg and 2 of the aforementioned kids doesn´t strike me as a good defense. Drysdale is basically still a kid who just missed an entire year. IMO adding Dumba would be beneficial for several reasons. He´s an experienced D man who can play tough minutes. He´s no pushover. If the goal is to keep Gibson I think he´d welcome that move. We could pair a kid (counting Drysdale here) with Fowler, Gudas and Dumba. That leaves two spots for Helleson, LaCombe, Zellweger and Mintyukov. And there´s no way all of our D are gonna play 82 games. If any of the kids kicks down the NHL doors, that´s a good problem to have.
  17. Where did you get that from? Seems odd for florida to be moving him.
  18. I´m disappointed he didn't end up with us but it was a longshot. It was clear from the beginning that detroit was ahead of the competition. If the player doesn´t want to be here you can hardly call it a missed opportunity. Possible silver lining: his contract is very reasonable. That might help us in the Terry & Zegras negotiations. Imagine if he had gotten 8.5 mil from someone. Anyway PV, what´s next? I´m still hoping for Dumba and I´d love to get my hands on Nylander although I definitely don´t see that one happen.
  19. Where did you hear that? I´d love to add Dumba.
  20. He should command more. He´s better than Debrincat. As for trade value, the leafs don´t have to be too picky because he walks after this season.
  21. Same. While we definitely need a scoring winger I´d like PV to go after Dumba to shore up the D. I´m fine with the Klingberg approach, overpay for 1 year and move him at the deadline. Or if it works try to keep him. But if not Debrincat, I don´t know where we´re going to find a scorer. Nylander? Though I have no idea how a package for him would look like. Holtz as Gorb suggested in another thread?
  22. The isles would have to get creative I think to fit him in. Don´t know whether it matters to Debrincat but the isles don´t strike me as a team that´ll be competing anytime soon. I may be totally wrong here as in I find it hard to predict where they´ll end up in the standings but I don´t see them beating out the leafs, canes, devils, rangers, bruins (if they find a #1 C), panthers and maybe even the pens. Several of those teams will remain good for at least a couple of years. If he cares about winning I don´t think the isles are the best place to go. Weird comment coming from a Ducks fan 😄 but we have a very bright future. He´ll probably end up in Detroit though Stevie Y isn´t a fan of handing out long contracts.
  23. IMO McT is definitely our captain of the future. If Henrique sticks around I´d put the C on him next season because McT might still be too young. If not Henrique, maybe Fowler. I don´t think he´d have a problem giving back the C should he accept it in the first place.
  24. Would Holtz be worth it? Difficult to judge a 21 year old player but hasn´t he "underperformed" so far? Don´t know how much of a chance he has gotten in jersey.
  25. I think I would do an unprotected 1st to get him. We have Zegras, Terry, Mctavish, Carlsson, Drysdale, Zellweger, Mintyukov & Luneau as top prospects/young players. If we can add Debrincat to that group we should have enough pieces for the not too distant future to build around. Also with the addition of Gudas, Killorn, Debrincat + preferably another D man), the new coach and hopefully some progress from the young guys we should be a better team. Maybe good enough to get out of that bottom 5-8.
