I´m pretty amazed by arizona actually. You definitely can´t accuse them of tanking. Looking a bit closer at the standings I noticed they´ve won more games at home than edmonton, dallas and Colorado.

I was thinking the same thing. All of a sudden philly is right there within striking distance. Apart from that last night was the stuff of legends tankwise. It probably would have been better if san jose picked up the extra point but looking at those rosters I expect more offensively out of columbus than out of the sharks. If they win their game in hand they´re only 3 points behind us. Too bad we play them on the 2nd night of a back-to-back in a few days.

I think he´ll have to fork over more for Severson. Unfortunately that´s the case in Anaheim. In many casus we´ll have to pay a bit more than others. But given our situation Severson would be worth it.

In all fairness prior to the season nobody expected us to be hoping for the last spot. There was no doubt in my mind that chicago, arizona en san jose were going to end behind us. There's always the possibility that a team completely falters. I thought it was going to be Philly but turns out it's columbus. While we lost a lot of quality with Getzlaf, Rakell, Lindholm & Manson, PV did bring in Strome, Vatrano, Klingberg & Kulikov. With a possible bounce back season from Comtois, some progress from Lundestrom, Terry, Zegras & Drysdale, and maybe some improvement from Eakins (even if it was a mere 2%) I thought we could end up somewhere in the 22-27 range. Turns out Comtois didn't bounce back, Lundestrom didn't make progress, Drysdale got hurt and Eakins didn't improve one bit. Hence we were worse than I was expecting. When we were bottom of the league halfway through the season I too started hoping for a top 3 pick but right now we are where we deserve to be. We can only hope Arizona keeps up the good work and that montreal doesn't start mailing it in. And that PV doesn't think this team can play under Eakins and thinks of extending him.

I never said anything about trading down. In an ideal world PV adds two top 6 wingers. He could use that pick for a package deal to get someone who can step in right away.

With our Ducks´ results of late we can not rule out that we´re drafting outside of the top 4. I think we play the next 8 or so games at home and we have games upcoming against columbus, vancouver, arizona & st. Louis among others down the stretch. If we keep getting the results we have been seeing lately we might end up picking outside of the top 5. Assume Bedard, Carlsson, Fantili and Michkov don´t drop would you consider trading that pick? And would PV consider it?

Well the sharks lost so that sucks but the habs picked up a point against the rangers and the yotes beat the preds which is a double whammy because I hate the preds. Not an amazing night for the tank but it could have been worse.

What a surprising night. The sharks pick up two point in winnipeg and chicago destroyed ottawa 5-0. Maybe some no name guys trying to prove they belong? Vancouver also picks up 2 points although I don´t know where they are in the standings.

I agree with you but I also agree that next summer is crunch time for PV. I feel he could have done more last summer but I give him a pass for that. I understand the evaluation thing but I don´t understand not firing eakins. Signing Klingberg was a great move IMO. Nobody expected him and the team to be this bad I think. Hence the expected high return at the TDL wasn´t there. But now he´s out of excuses. He has had time to evaluate this team and he has a lot of capspace. This summer he´ll have to pull off some great moves. If he can´t do it now he can leave with eakins.

Well this TDL sure was a bummer. At the start of the season we were hoping to turn Klingberg in a 1st rounder. Guess that didn´t turn out so well. But looking at it from another POV. Klingberg was getting better. Losing him and Kulikov makes us a worse team I think and sadly that´s the goal. Meanwhile EK is still in San Jose so they might end up winning a game here and there. It´s sad that we have to look at it that way but losing now might make us winners in the (hopefully not too) long run.

And with Domi leaving chicago as well they're destined to lose evey remaining game. Here's to hoping the sharks don't deal away karlsson. If that happens no way we don't catch up with them. Then it's Columbus, chicago & san jose for sure behind us.

Man the leafs are really gearing up for the playoffs and seem desparate to dump the ´too soft for the playoffs´ stigma. While the moves make sense isn´t it a lot for team chemistry? Or is that overrated?

With kane gone I think chicago is done winning for the season. I hope Bedard doesn´t land in their lap but if that happens chances are we´re moving down a spot. Unless we´re the ones winning.

I´ve already come to terms with the fact that we can´t have nice things. We didn ´t do ourselves any favors by winning against the caps and canes. The sharks will go full thank mode and chicago is simply bad. We never had a #1 overall, all star game or a draft in 30 years. Not that it all matters but it is what it is. In a draft that´s been talked about for ages as having 4 amazing prospects we´ll probably end up picking 5th or later.

Great post. Big Gibson fan here. Always have been. He´s a great goalie and while he sometimes seems to give up these numbers put it all in perspective. I hope he stays because he can be part of the solution. But no more of these monstergames this season please 🤫😄

It does seem unlikely PV (or any GM) would do that. It´s fun to speculate though.

I never answered my own question but I would too. If Ducks fans don't have to think about it, the other team probably doesn't either. What if it's top 3? Fantilli / Carlsson / Michkov + Zegras must be somewhat enticing for a team like Arizona.

Should we fall out of the top 5 and say we get 6th OA, would you trade Zegras (extended)+ 6OA for the #1 pick (Beddard)? And would the team drafting 1st take it?

Best is to letting it go. Prior to the season I'd never thought I'd be pulling for Ducks losses but at a certain point it doesn't matter anymore whether you win except maybe for morale. But if we're gonna start winning now it's not going to get us in the Playoffs. The only thing that'll change is our draft position. We'd be picking 9th or 10th while if we continue down this path but we're guaranteed a top 5 pick. That'll benefit us more in the long run if we pick a good one that is. So I let it slide. It's nice to win on occasion but moving down in the draft doesn't help us so I no longer mind the losses. Getting blown out 7-1 is of course awful so I'd rather see them play competitively but still. I hope PV works out deals for Zegras & Terry and that Eakins gets the sack. I'd like to see that happen sooner rather than later so the new coach can already implement his system. That'll be a challenge for some players since they've played under Eakins for so long.

We´re almost halfway through the season and still very much in the running for one of the top 4 guys. Ending up with Will Smith after all this suffering would be a slap in the face 😏

So much this. I've come to terms with the fact that we suck a while ago. I'm all for tanking for Bedard but this is just plain embarrassing. Losing a game is okay but getting blown out 7-0 is not. And I can't stand the fact that Eakins is still the coach of this team. Makes me sick to my stomach.

Is there a limit to how many contracts you can retain on? Because we can retain salary like a boss.

Never been a fan of tanking and I actually had pretty high hopes prior to the season that we would at least end pretty close to a playoff spot or even end up in a wild card spot. Now that we're 1/4 into the season all my hopes are out of the window and I'm pulling for the #1 pick. We also have pieces to unload, Klingberg, but the way he's playing I'm not sure there will be takers and maybe it helps us if he stays around 😄
