  1. Rantanen as in Colorado's Mikko Rantanen? Because he's signed through 2025.
  2. You either end the regular season and recalculate points to 65 games or you shorten The Playoffs. Only 8 teams instead of 16 and best of 5 series or something. We're not competing so I don't care who gets in
  3. A lot of ifs in this post but let's say if the leafs don't win The Cup this year, they're gonna have to change some things up. I'm guessing barrie walks for starters. Ceci and Dermott need to be re-signed / let go. They will be without a bottom 6. If we could get them to bite on Manson would you do it for Nylander? I know we need a C but Nylander is an exciting young player who can make plays and he has a pretty good contract. No idea what this would mean for the expansion draft but if we could make that work would the leafs do it? They get a physical top 4 D man on a good contract and additional cap space to help them fill out their bottom 6.
  4. He's a freak of nature. The way he plays must be tasking on his body but he shows no signs of slowing down. Barring a serious injury I see no reason why he won't break it.
  5. I can't believe Lou is working on a trade to bring Parise to the isles. A lot of retention must be involved otherwise it's crazy. He already gave up a lot for Pageau IMO.
  6. That guy should no longer be in the league. He's a disgrace.
  7. I wouldn't mind having Vatanen back. Lindholm, Manson, Fowler, Vatanen, Gudbransson, Guhle & Mahura seems pretty good to me. Some good puck movers, Manson & Guds bring a physical element and should Vatanen come back we may have an upgrade on our PP (if his shoulder holds up).
  8. We could definitely use Hall eventhough he's not a center. But our 1st should be untouchable. I'd consider it if it's a sign and trade but imagine giving up our 1st and Kase and Hall walks after this season. That'd be brutal. It's not like we're contending for The Cup this season. I wonder what's going on with Turris. He had a good WC and a pretty solid start in nashville. His contract is horrendous but with some serious retention I'd consider it. His value is at an all time low, he's not old and the talent is there. A change of scenery and a chance to play is probably all he needs. It would give us more center depth, a chance to move Henrique to wing and some more wiggle room for Steel who might use some more time in San Diego.
  9. 3 point night for Perry. That's what, 9 points so far? He missed a big part of training camp. New environment and a new team that had a pretty rough start btw. I think given the circumstances that's pretty good production. They're paying him 1-2 mil? If he keeps that up no way he calls it quits after this season. And even if his production is low he still brings grit and experience. He's not expected to be a top 6 winger anymore.
  10. This. But it's also crazy they're on a 5 game losing streak and that their goal differential is -8. That's something to be ashamed of with that kind of offense (even taking into account Marner is out). I guess Babcock must have lost the room otherwise firing him is a huge boneheaded move by dubas. Very curious to see how it pans out.
  11. At the time Draisaitl singed his contract I thought he was slightly overpaid. I don't know what I was thinking.
  12. Not a good idea to trade now. We'd be dealing from a weak position. What are we gonna give up? Rakell, Henrique and Silfverberg are the only forwards who are scoring. We can't afford to lose those guys. Call up one of the Gulls (pray it goes well) and make a trade for San Diego if need be but I'd hate to give up a valuable asset for a stopgap solution. And Kase out again? I hate to be that "told you so" guy but Kase should be traded/have been traded. I like him but he can't stay healthy. Should he make a return move him for whatever you can get.
  13. still early in the season. Too early to draw conclusions. Including about ourselves. But having McDavid and Draisaitl on the top of their game will go a long way I think. Especially early in the season when some teams are still figuring things out. I do think the Avs are for real.
  14. That would be my preference too but how many GMs are gonna give up solid NHL talent for underperforming AHL'ers? None. If you want something valuable you gotta give something in return.
  15. Well to be fair BM did go after shattenkirk and faulk but both guys didn't want to be here. That's not on BM. And a trade for a top 4 D man will cost us. Maybe BM wants to have a better understanding of what he has and what he can lose. All our young guys show promise but no more than that. Do you want to trade them already or see how they develop? I'm in the "if it's for the right player trade Kase because I don't think he can stay healthy" camp but apart from him we have little of value to trade I think. I don't want to risk trading Jones for example because who knows what he might blossom into. Maybe BM feels the same way. As long as we're doing fine I think he can wait some more.
  16. Well they didn't go for the 3 point game last night. Losing 8-2 against vancouver is pretty spectacular. The season is still young but it'll be hard to keep the kings out of the last spot.
  17. They can't re-sign barrie and muzzin unless they're gonna play for scraps. The big 4 plus Andersen and Reilly take up 50,5 mil. That's 50 mil for 6 players. That leaves a little less than 35 mil for 17 players. Whatever trick Dubas pulled with that LTIR money is also out of the question because both horton and clarkson are off the books next season. I applaud Dubas for keeping his big 4 together and especially for the Johnson and Kapanen deals but it's not sustainable. One (probably Nylander) will have to go. If they win The Cup over the next 2-3 years it's all good but imagine if they don't. That Matthews contract is horrible. Marner's isn't much better.
  18. That whole Marner situation is [insert word(s) of choice]. Can't believe he turned down 11 mil. I thought he was a hometown boy. Apparently not. If I were in the GM's office in toronto I'd let him walk. They have the top end talent anyway to compete for The Cup and with that 11 mil they can bring in another impact forward and defenseman. Then again dubas did it to himself with that ridiculous Matthews contract.
  19. Apparently they surfaced on a twitter account that's already been deleted. Don't think anybody knew the guy who started it either. So not very real.
  20. Good on BM for trying. If they don't want to come you can't make them.
  21. Agreed with most that's already been said. He'll probably prefer staying on the east coast and if he does consider coming out West it'll take a bit of an overpayment. I'm not against taking a chance at overpaying him for one year. If it doesn't work out, he walks at the deadline or next year. If it does work out, it probably wasn't an overpayment and maybe he wants to stay. But please BM no 3 year contract with a NMC. Believing all the rumors Ristolainen is available. But I don't think we want to part with the pieces buffalo would want. Shattenkirk is available but as stated above it's a longshot. Over on HF boards I read Chase Priskie, some caps prospect, won't sign and will become a UFA august 15. He's RHD who probably wants an opportunity. We can offer him that . I'm not a fan of schultzlike behavior but if it can get us a promising RHD why not? IMO BM should push for one of the abovementioned 3.
  22. This stings. I'll always have a soft spot for Perry. I hope he can still play, doesn't go to a lousy team and make the best of it. Hopefully no bridges are burned and we can retire his number one day.
  23. Hopefully he can live life pain free after the operation. Life comes before hockey but I'm still hoping for a miraculous comeback. The odds are definitely stacked against him but as DTS said, he's Ryan Kesler.
  24. This is shocking to read. Shows again that often we as fans have no clue about what's going on and that the players deserve our utmost respect. I feel so bad for him because we know what he can do when he's healthy. Kesler is an example to all the young guys on the team. What a warrior. I sincerely hope that he can take another (or more) steps over the summer and that he can play pain free. Go Kesler!!
