  1. You are correct, the Ducks will improve from 32nd overall to 31st overall. The only note worthy FA signings were Killorn and Gudas. Everyone else will not improve the Ducks at all and are just filler. And they still need to dump Leason.
  2. Team full of soft players last year? The great signings of Beaulieu, White, Harrington, Kulikov, and the great Simon Benoit were all "sand paper" defensemen. And what did this team do with the likes of those guys in the lineup, nothing. Worst defense ever put together in NHL history. Why? Because they were so focused on playing that sand paper battle along the boards that they were constantly caught out of position. Benoit had more stupid penalties then good plays. Then all of a sudden towards the end of the season the Ducks defense got a bit better. When did this happen? When a few of these sand paper guys got benched and Lacombe and Helleson were playing. Funny what could happen when you take the guys looking for the hits out that just put themselves out of position and you bring in guys that play smart in your own end but don't get caught. You don't need to have a defense full of guys scrumming and playing board battles. You need a defense full of guys that dont get caught out of position or watching the puck that they leave the back door open on every play. That's what happened to the Ducks last year. Too many guys were able to sneak in back door while both defensemen were looking away from the net. One would be off in the corner, the other would be covering that guys spot, and nobody was left for the other side. Some of the best defenses in the league are full of skilled guys, not hard hitters, willing to play dirty guys. Yes they might have one or two, but that's it. That's what Gudas brings. You don't need to change Helleson's game into something it's not when you have another guy that plays that role.
  3. Also, what top NHL defenseman is a complete A-hole, fights, and mixes up in all scrums and throws cheap shots? Makar, Hedman, Josi, Karlsson, Hughes, Morrisey? None of them. Defense is about blocking shots, being in the right lane, not getting out of position, and then when you get the puck, having the vision and passing to get the puck out of your zone. Not fighting and mixing it up in scrums. The game has changed. If Helleson has good vision, good sense in his own zone, doesn't get out of place, makes good passes, then he deserves to be on the team, not San Diego. Who plays right side in San Diego? Who cares. Teach a left shot defenseman how to play right side. That's what San Diego is there for. The objection is to win the Stanley Cup, not the Calder Cup.
  4. Making it easy that if Terry breaks out and continues to put up 30 that he can trade him and turn him into draft picks, thus setting our rebuild way behind. It's the Pat Verbeek way.
  5. Or if Helleson is the better player, have him play in the NHL and stick Harrington on the right side in the AHL, instead of having the Ducks have the worst player in their lineup. Fighting is not a big thing in hockey anymore. So it really doesnt matter that Helleson doesn't fight. If he is going to be one of the Ducks top 4 defensemen down the road, I'd rather have him playing minutes then sitting in the penalty box serving 5 minute fighting penalties all the time. Hockey these days is all about vision, passing, and decision making, not fighting and taking cheap shots in post whistle scrums, and body checking, well that's basically lost these days as all clean hits just lead to fights.
  6. He got it done because arbitration was going to step in and he was scared it would come in higher. If Terry didn't have arbitration rights, I believe we would be in the same place we are not now with Zegras and Drysdale in that Verbeek still wouldn't have him signed. If Zegras and Drysdale had arbitration rights, he would have them signed at the last minute too. I don't like the comment he has made about nobody is going to be paid higher then Terry. Umm, Zegras is a slightly better player then Terry and had the most points on the team last year, with more upside. He deserves to be paid more then Terry. That comment Verbeek made does not look good for getting a Zegras deal done. I said Terry would get 7.5 and Zegras in the 8.5 range, Drysdale in the 3.5 range. I believe that would have got all 3 signed and Terry for sure as he took $7mil. Drysdale at 3.5 could get him locked up for 3 or 4 years.
  7. And honestly if it was me, I would be playing our best players. If the kids are promising in training camp they make the team. No better way to learn the NHL then to play in the NHL and get your feet wet. None of this, they need to grow in the AHL stuff. I'd rather watch the Ducks lose while developing young players then watch the never was talent that Verbeek seems to be filling out a team with all the time. I would have Carlsson here for the full season and ice a lineup of: Killorn - Zegras - Terry Henrique - McTavish - Carlsson McGinn - Strome - Vatrano (none of these players end up higher in the lineup then they should be) Jones - Groulx - Regenda Fowler - Drysdale Lacombe - Helleson/Warren (which ever wins the camp battle, would love that 6'4 frame in the lineup) Zellweger/Mintyukov - Gudas Gibson Dostal
  8. Keep on dreaming bud. With Verbeek bringing in studs like Lybushkin and Harrington instead of giving Zellwegger or Helleson or Minty shots, we are due for another bottom 5 finish. Does this roster really look all that dangerous and improved to you, or just as sad as last years, maybe worse. Killorn - Zegras(????) - Terry Henrique - McTavish - Carlsson(9 games)/Vatrano McGinn - Strome - Vatrano(9 games)/Nesterenko Jones - Carrick/Groulx - Leason Fowler - Gudas Lacombe - Drysdale (????) Hagg - Lybushkin Harrington/White Honestly that lineup is horrible and we have no clue if Zegras or Drysdale will even be in it come opening day. Imagine of the wonderful GMPV doesnt get those contracts done and the Ducks have to play without those two. I would have had those contracts done by now. You go back and I even said Terry would get 7.5, ended up at 7. Verbeek couldn't get it done as he was only offering $4. Such a raise for a 30 goal scorer. I'll put it out there right now, if Carlsson only gets 9 games and this is very close to the roster the Ducks ice, then they will finish no better then 31 in the NHL and we will be looking at a repeat of last season.
  9. And now we can go from discussing Nylander, someone who would improve the team, to the actual signing of Scott Harrington to a PTO, a guy that will get signed to the team and waste another spot like last year. Last place here we come again.
  10. And soon we are going to add Scott Harrington back to the mix. Signed to a PTO. Seriously, if we are going to waste defensive spots on guys like Harrington and Hagg, let the promising young guys play instead of making the fans suffer through what we got last year again. If the Ducks give up 50 shots a night again, nobody is ever going to want to play here under Verbeek. And then there is the whole Zegras and Drysdale still not signed. I'm losing hope that they will sign by training camp. Verbeek has clearly shown he can't get multiple things done, worrying more about bringing back Scott Harrington, an uter failure from last year, instead of signing the RFA's that he has. Seriously, can we punt Verbeek to the curve yet so we can get Zegras and Drysdale back.
  11. Simply put.....WHY????????????
  12. Simply put.....WHY????????????
  13. May I remind you in 2003-04, everyone thought a 33 year old Teemu Selanne was done after posting a 16G, 16A, in 78 game season with Colorado. Yes his knees were shot and the lockout did him good, but he came back after the lockout at 35 years old and posted 40G and 50A in 80 games and the following season at 36 years old had 48G and 46A in 82 games. Even at 40 years old he had 31G and 49A. Not all players continue to produce at this age, but some players also take longer to figure out how they need to play and then start producing. Killorn may be one of those examples where he put in some extra work in the offseason and the results have paid off.
  14. Verbeek has said alot of things during his short time with the Ducks that have been completely untrue. So believe what you want to from what he says, but I have a hard time believing anything he or any GM for that matter says, especially when they do the opposite 2 days later. We have to see how camp plays out instead of just believing what Verbeek says is what he will do.
  15. I dont get the whole "we need to ease them in" or " play them in the AHL" stuff. I understand playing 2nd round picks in the AHL to develop, but a guy who would have been a first overall pick in any other draft doesnt need to develop in the AHL against weaker competition l. That does nothing to get him ready for the NHL. Then playing him in a third or fourth line role when you want him in the top six, how does that help? You start learning the league as a shut down defensive center and dont want offense, then a few years down the road we will switch up that role and youre learning a whole new role from sqaure one. McTavish went into the top 6, play Carlsson where you want him and let him learn his actual role and the actual competition he is going to face. Not going to learn anything against weaker opponents and the best learning opportunity is to be put into the role you are expected. The Ducks arent doing anything this year anyways, so let the kid learn his actual job.
  16. Seriously play Carlsson top 6 as well as Henrique and put Strome and Vatrano in the bottom 6 where they belong. That was the problem last year, too many players playing out of place and not complementing the actual top 6 players on the team. A smart coach the lines look like: Killorn - Zegras - Terry Henrique - McTavish - Carlsson Jones - Strome - Vatrano McGinn - Carrick - Silfverberg Doesnt that forward group and placement look so much better then sticking Strome and Vatrano in the top 6 where they proved last year that they dont belong.
  17. My bad. Just saw on eliteprospects where he was listed as a center/right wing and assumed right shot didnt actuually look. Still if he is center/right wing then out him on the right wing to start.
  18. Carlsson is a right hand shot so would not be LW. 2nd line should be Henrique LW - McTavish C - Carlsson RW. Then Strome center for 3rd line and Vatrano RW 3rd line. Let the guys slot in with the roles and minutes they should have.
  19. Best option to me is to start him as RW on line one or two. Play wing for either Zegras or McTavish and let Strome center the third libe where he belongs with Vatrano. Neither one of those two should be top 6.
  20. So if Carlsson comes into camp and is the Ducks best player, plays the first 9 games of the season and is the leading scorer, Verbeek os going to send him back to Sweden? If that's his plan no matter what then fire Verbeek now as it would be clear he doesnt want to win. Carlsson would have easily been a number one pick in any other draft and number one picks tend to play in the NHL immediately. It is a young guys game now. Guys around 30 are considered not to be in their prime anymore. Prime years are 25. In my opinion, if Carlsson shows in the preseason what he did in Sweden last year, he will make the opening day roster and play more then 9 games. He is already better then more then half of the forwards on the team. Zegras, Terry, McTavish would be the only ones I would rank better. I would rather watch Carlsson play at 18 and on an ELC then sign Tatar to 6.5 mil over multiple seasons. Remember the Ducks have an internal cap and they still need to sign Zegras and Drysdale. There will be nothing left for a Tatar on the internal budget once they are signed.
  21. Well the Ducks dont need another middle six forward playing higher in the lineup then he should. There are enough of those already on this team. Tatar is not getting top 6 minutes. Our top 6 should look like: Killorn - Zegras - Carlsson Henrique - McTavish - Terry There is no room in the top 6 for Tatar or at that point another left shoot LW making over 6mil per season.
  22. Also we have plenty if Tatar's on this team already. He only fills the same role as Steome, Vatrano, and Silfverberg. Why do we need another one of those players.
  23. I wouldnt touch Toews with a 10 foot pole. He helped cover up the whole abuse scandal with the Hawks. Knew all about it. Some captain. Not the player I want in the locker room and judging by how nobody has come calling not even Chicago, other teams have the same opinion. If Toews comes back at all it is to a contender to try to win a cup, not to be in a fight for the bottom 5. Tatar is 32 years old and doesnt fit the rebuild and sounds like he is off to Pittsburgh. Same for Tatar, looking to play for a contender not a bottom feeder.
  24. Name one. At this point they are all bottom 6 fillers that are left. You want Nick Ritchie or Danton Heinen back? I dont. Just looked at the top 50 free agents and besides the two Ducks RFA, I wouldnt sign any of them.
  25. LOL. You are seriously comparing the stats of a 27-29 year old Ryan Strome to that of a 35-37 year old Ryan Getzlaf. Compare Strome's stars to Getzlaf's when he is 35-37 and tell me how he compares. He will be lucky to still be playing at that age honestly. In comparison, a 27-29 year old Getzlaf had: 11G, 46A in 82 games 15G, 34A in 44 games 31G, 56A in 77 games Much fairer comparison using their output at the same age and Getzlaf as the far superior player. As some only look at points and the first two seasons are comparable here is points per game Strome: 0.84, 0.88, and 0.86 Getzlaf: 0.70, 1.11, 1.13
