  1. By the way, I just wanted to mention that Alexis is a very good interviewer! I always enjoy listening to her interviews. She's ready and knows the questions. Good stuff.

You want more speculation about a "list"? LOL. All I want is pen to paper.

Lol give me the signed contract! But I didn't hear anything from his interview that would prevent him from signing.

I know that JD didn't take him to arbitration but historically players that do end up getting traded within one to two years.

I think this had more to do with picking up CG than trading out Drysdale though. He just happened to be the guy they were ok with getting and probably Verbeek had no problem trading him out because of those contract talks.

He said he was a "trustworthy guy" uuuummm... lol I'm not trying to be negative here but that was kind of funny. He seems to be really excited to be on the ducks. Mentioned Nestorenko as one of his best friends. That got me thinking, since Nestorenko played with him and was traded to us. Perhaps they had some conversations about us and CG decided we were worth putting on the list? Is it even confirmed he had a list? Anyway, the connection is there and I think that may have helped us.

    You can’t do that $h!t! 😂

That is straight-up tampering. NOT ALLOWED.

Yeah I hadn't thought about that but you're absolutely right. But maybe like I said Verbeek was cool with it. We don't really know.

  6. I know it's a long shot but I wouldn't mind signing him. Could help get his career restarted and he could be the guy to drive the net and show how it's done. What would worry me would be if he advocates for leaving the franchise since it helped him to get back to playing meaningful hockey. Lol

CG was their first top 10 and even top 5 pick since Nolan Patrick (2017). Why in the F would they want to piddle him off?

I think it all just boils down to whatever Fletcher promised him. CG might not ever say what that was so I wouldn't expect any explanations. Maybe it's just pure coincidence or maybe even planned by the Flyers but Fletcher was fired March 10th which I believe (maybe I'm wrong) was a day or two before CG could have signed his ELC. Weird.

I know there are stories about both parents or one of them being a Penguins fan and this would upset the family. I just can't buy that. Why would they want to jeopardize his career?

So maybe whatever Fletcher promised CG was one of the contributing factors to his firing. Briere replaces him but can't keep that promise because the Flyers organization wont go with it. Briere tries to mend the relationship but it's too far gone.

Then just by coincidence or bad luck Bob Murray is hired by the Flyers. He's going to be privy to the CG situation and as a senior advisor hatches a plan and runs it by Briere. He's welcomed religiously (for some reason) to the Honda Center and of course Pat Verbeek (a fox in the hen house). Gets Verbeek sold on the idea of trading Drysdale (maybe even Zegras) because kids these days just wont accept what their offered, not like in the old days. And the rest is history.

I'm just hoping that CG doesn't think that whatever Fletcher promised is "normal" and that the Ducks (Verbeek) should be offering the same thing.

To the bolded- why would Verbeek take that as an excuse and go along with it (Drysdale and Zegras  contacts in guessing is what you're referring to) when he'll possibly have to deal with someone who is a "kid these days just won't accept what he's offered"? He'd be getting into the and boat that's sinking from the one he just got out of, if that's the thinking here. But sure I agree in general that Bob had a hand in this and wasn't Fisix mentioning that he saw him sitting with Drysdale and Zegras at different points this season? He might have mentioned a thing or two about possibly playing somewhere else. Maybe he even mentioned to him about Philly and what his thoughts about the city and team were to get a feel if he'd be willing to go there. What's concerning is that he also talked with Zegras. And maybe even PV was ok with Bob talking to Drysdale to get a feel for a trade so he wouldn't have to do it himself and risk ruining his relationship with the player in case it doesn't work out. Who knows. We need CG to clear up some stuff in general at least because the speculation is kind of getting out of hand.

  8. We did the load management thing, now are we rushing him back from injury? I'm concerned the timeline for the injury is 4 to 6 weeks and he'll be back in 3. If rather him get fully healed and just to make sure another week than get him in games asap.

A hole in one! Way to go, champ!

Gulls were as bad as the Ducks to start the season. It's either McIlvane is not as good as we expected or the players are just trash, more likely the latter.

But you still gotta know at some point. There's too many guys leaving the Ducks that actually play better.

I think - my guess, but it seems like a well-founded one - is that PHI is who decide he should "sit out".

It seems that he was ready to start his career last March, and they told him, basically, "Hold off a year".

And that seems to be the problem.  That, for him, was the end of the relationship.  How it went down, who said what?  No idea.  But that seems to be were it all began and ended, and there was no more relationship after that.  He stopped communicating, he refused to come to camp - knowing he's going back to BC until April -, and they knew they had broken the relationship, and they needed to move him and try to get max value.

I think management saw that they screwed up and tried to get it worked out but it was too little too late at that point. I think they're just trying to cover for ineptitude in all this by laying on CG that he just ghosted them for no reason at all. Or maybe it was the gm before DB who messed up. Either way I think they're just trying to come out of it looking better than they actually are.

Well, absolutely. We've never seen him at his best, just with crappy coaches.

However with the CG situation, something is off. If CG was under the impression that he would be playing for the Flyers after his college season was over which looks like it was March 11th 2023 why wouldn't have hired his agent after that? Briere was the AGM when CG was drafted so it's not like he didn't know who CG was. That's where the mystery begins.

Friedman comes up with a theory of "bonus overages". Huh? The only bonus that goes against cap according to Cap Friendly is a signing bonus which in CG's case is $95k. So is Friedman trying to say Philly didn't sign CG after his college season was over because of $95k? Does it seem plausible that the Flyers wouldn't sign a 5th OA pick because they didn't have $95K?

And as the story goes, CG wouldn't talk to the Flyers again after WC which I think was May 2023. They claim they tried to quietly deal him at the 2023 draft with no takers. So on and so forth until just after the recent WJC where CG wins gold and has his highest value finally gets dealt.

Yeah I just can't see how those things make it so he 1) doesn't sign a contract for this year and pays 2) loses a whole year until UFA status because he decides to sit out.

Something bigger had to have happened. I don't think it's just a kid with a bruised ego. The flyers are trying to play it off by claiming ignorance in the matter. They couldn't find takers for a former 5th OA pick at the draft? Yeah right.

Also Verbeek directly stated he had traded Jd to acquire goal scoring. Just to trade one of your best goal scorers who’s young, injured and at his lowest value? It would be a stupid move and antithetical to the stated goal of the Gm

Lol I saw a few videos of the speculation and let me just say that some trade proposals in the comments sections are laughable. By some accounts we trade him for some throw aways because "he doesn't have much value" and "only scores a Michigan goal every 2 years". Lol

I am not happy with FOWLer's play recently. In the last few minutes of the game against Nashville, FOWLer was just standing still near Ducks goaltender and watched him getting abused. On PK, the same story: just standing near goal crease and watching.

Third Nashville's goal is a perfect example of weak play by FOWLer: forwards keep shooting the puck from short range at Dostal, and our "best defenseman" is barely present.

I am not saying Ducks defense is weak because of him, but his softness and mediocracy is a big part of it. Yet he's playing 25 minutes per game. Why? Coaches, just look at team record and his personal record, does it look impressive?

They need to bring his minutes down a lot. He's playing way too much. I get that we're young on d but his minutes are ridiculous.

Wasn’t that Seravelli just talking out his butt? Dreger said he’s heard no reports of the Ducks shopping or looking into trading Zegras

I think it's just speculation based off the Drysdale trade and they were buddies and hold outs and all that stuff. I haven't heard anyone actually mentioning that he's on the trade block. Besides, he can't be traded at the moment as he's injured.

Zegras' days were numbered the moment that they started the hard ball negotiation. Verbeek doesn't see that he is more then a $5mil player and with the hold out I would assume that just adds fire to trade him. Zegras, Gibson, Henrique, I wouldn't be surprised to see all three not in the lineup next season.

As for too slow not fitting Verbeek's plan, he did sign Killorn who is even slower, so speed should have nothing to do with it.

I don't think it was unreasonable for Zegras to hold out and demand more money. A lot of his buddies like Hughes got big money so he was thinking he'd be worth that much too. And honestly he probably deserved a contract similar to Hughes or somewhere around there. If anyone feels slighted it's not Verbeek. Just because Zegras is off to a slow start doesn't mean he didn't deserve that contract. He's worth more than 5 mil, it's just going to take him time to get there. Which is why it was probably a good idea to bridge him. Besides, wasn't the speculation that Zegras would actually want to sign a bridge instead of a long term contract so he can prove himself and get more money? Everyone on the team is adjusting to a different style/ coach so we're going to have guys who start off slow.

Drysdale mentioned in his press conference that he had been adjusting to playing more man on man defense and now he's going to have to adjust again. That's normal.

Yeah, he wanted to burn a year of his ELC to get to that SPC faster. Problem is he had a pity party when he didn't get his way and refused to talk to the team. He has to learn it's a business and there is a process.

Didn't we have a few players who we did something like that to? Zegras? Not with the contact but we limited his games. I wonder how he still feels about that.

It's still just a weird thing to do. Ok, they didn't sign him at the end of last season. Why didn't he sign this season? He opted to stay in college another year just to spite the team over that? Like how does that make any sense? In the article mentioned above something happened before the current management came in. I don't think he'd do something like this over a signing bonus and a year of potential ufa earlier. The team didn't want to sign him it seems like and probably the way they went about it made him very upset. Because he could have come to camp and signed an ELC to play THIS year. Whatever happened made him decide to push his career back a whole season.

I'm a little confused about this. If he signed a contract and didn't play then it would have made no difference to the cap. It's only if he played right? In that case, they couldn't trade someone to make the cap work? He's a top 5 pick. He had to have been better than a fourth liner easily. Why was that a problem?

  18. Bob for sure had a say in the deal and probably pushed for Drysdale. It was probably the best deal they could get and they likely wanted him sent to another conference. I also read somewhere that his family is in Arizona so it's close to home. It's also interesting that it was mentioned how all the gm's kept it from getting out so they were able to get a better return. I guess they all had an agreement that if this kind of thing happens to anyone they'll try to not make it get out to lower the price? Not sure why that would be a thing if everyone knew that he wanted out anyway? But the trade really came out of left field.

He’s eligible to play, when signed

So basically we traded for a guy who's possibly going to sign after the college season is over? Maybe that's not what he meant but that's what it sounds like. I hope they're sure he's going to sign here.
