He’s eligible to play, when signed

So basically we traded for a guy who's possibly going to sign after the college season is over? Maybe that's not what he meant but that's what it sounds like. I hope they're sure he's going to sign here.

Or he does sign here and cant transition to the NHL game like Sam Steel.

Dude you're like the most pessimistic person to ever exist.

  3. Wow that came out of no where. We need scorers and he's probably going to do that. What are the chances we see him in games before the season is over? Or is he no longer eligible to play this year since he's not signed before December 1st?

Guy literally looks like a porcelain doll. Makes sense. Sucks for him. But it gives some of the other rookies to catch up for RotY.

McDavid also got hurt his rookie year and didn't win the Calder. We'll see I guess.

Nice. I'd like to see this happen. Both the trade and I wouldn't mind them winning it this year.

Dang it. That's an old post... let's get this thing rolling though anyway. Get those trades going!

I'm pretty sure Rakell was a C that they turned into a W.

Ah you're right. For some reason I thought it was the other way around.

I must be misremembering, it was the Bobby Ryan at center experiment. We tried giving him second line center duties and it failed. For some reason I thought the same thing happened with Rakell.

Interesting how he mentioned adjusting to the wing. Perhaps some of his struggles were from moving him to the wing. I'm wondering though, and I know it's easier for a center to play wing, if we're trying to fit him into a position he's just not comfortable in. The experiments with turning Rakell into a center and others in the past as well. Maybe he's just not a winger and his strengths are at center where he can better utilize his speed, hands and feet. Just a thought.

probably not significant.  i did see sask post elsewhere that, as a team, we're basically the same Goals For this season as last season at this time, but our defense is significantly better, as measured by Goals Against.

i would hazard that the reduced GA stat is mostly due to better defensive skating play, which has significantly reduced the quality and number of the SoGs by our opponents.

i will also note, for fun, that those 36 non-goals attributable to our defense count for almost 30% of that 3.3% league-wide drop.  if it were distributed evenly, we'd account for ~10 teams' worth of better defense, all by ourselves.  that also proves that the Duck's defensive stats are well outside (i.e., much better than) any explanation that involves any league-wide reduction in goals.

So the Ducks are solely responsible for a 1% league wide drop in scoring? That's actually a pretty amazing stat.

Honestly, as a very clear Gibby fan, I do think we should trade him.

    a) If he wants to be traded, I get it, and I would like to see him with a much better supportive team in front of him

    b) I do think we could help out some of our offensive issues...which ultimately is still the biggest problem with the team. I'm not too worried about D, I think the issues with D stem more from inexperience with the young guys and the veterans wont be around too much longer

    c) I'm starting to come around with the idea you don't need a stellar goalie (which Gibby is still capable of being imo) to win a cup. You need a capable goalie who gets hot, but ultimately need a solid D system. Avs showed us that. I thought the Knights did too, but maybe Hill isn't the fluke I thought he was haha

    d) We do need to make sure we get a capable goalie in return as Dostal isn't ready quite yet. I'd love to see if we can get Holtz and Vanecek from NJ...i don't know how that works with "the money" etc...

    e) This team can afford to have a slightly less talented goalie for less money right now as we aren't a playoff team yet.

    f) I'm still happy to keep him lol but I'd be ok with a trade if we can help out our offensive issues.

I agree. I'm also a Gibby fan and I've said before that given the circumstances, especially considering his current Save %, we should trade him. We would need to get some kind of goalie, whether in the same trade or another because Dostal clearly isn't ready for the #1 role. I'm also fine if we keep him but I'm my opinion we should trade him.

  11. Merry Christmas to everyone on this board! The past few seasons have been brutal but coming here to discuss hockey, whether agreeing to disagree or listening to others insight and trade ideas, has been something to look forward to. Hopefully with the new year coming up we can turn a page and get healthy and finally start seeing some w's in the wins column.

🎅🎅🎅🎅 Now if only Santa would bring us the playoffs....

I don't think he needs to play incredible to stay. If he can put up around .35-.40 pts/game for the remainder of this season and also show that he gels with Cronin's defensive system, then I think he gets his QO and probably ends up in the 3 x $2.1M range for a contract.

I think Lundys game is a a defensive minded forward. If he comes back and puts up .25 p/gp it's probably going to be a miracle. Considering he's not a point getter to begin with and he's coming back from injury. He needs to be a really good defensive forward for the team that's going to be the only way for a contract I think. PV likes defensive guys I think and if he can show that then he'll keep him.

  13. 1 minute ago, dtsdlaw said:

Yeah, a $1.8M QO for a guy who missed that much time and who posted pretty bad stats last season seems a bit unlikely. Although, Lundestrom's game may be tailor-made from Cronin's system that emphasizes defense and making basic plays. Lundy is like the anti-Zegras, in that he seems to struggle more when he's expected to be more creative with his offense. So you never know.

Unless he really meshes with the system and plays incredible he's likely as good as gone. We're not going to QO at 1.8 and he's not going to get that on the open market either. So he's going to test FA and that means he likely would want out of Anaheim.

Well, I think they are gonna stick with 1 D and 4 F, and that's been Mintyukov and Fowler - and they've been good, 8 PPP for Fowler, 6 for Minty, and the ducks PP is going at 22.2% currently.

I think after a handful of games Drysdale gets in there.  But we'll see tonight.

Yeah a bit too early to get him pp time. Maybe get him into a couple over the next few games.

  15. 5 minutes ago, tommer-1 said:

His chances of getting hurt playing 22 minutes a night v. 20 min a night are gonna be the same.  Fowler is the only Dman logging big minutes so far this season, about 24 min a night on average.

Fowler - 27.7 shifts per game

    LaCombe - 24.8

    Gudas - 23.6

    Mintyukov - 22.8

    Lyubushkin - 22.6

    Vaakanainen - 20.5

    Luneau (7 games) - 20.7

    Drysdale (in only 2 games) - 26.0

Drysdale won't see PK minutes (that will still be Fowler, Lyubushkin, LaCombe, and Gudas) and won't see PP minutes for a little while, I would imagine - that will still likely be Fowler and Mintyukov.

Idk perhaps but Gudas would be on the ice with him to prevent guys possibly taking liberties and he'd be the physical presence whereas Fowler just doesn't do that. Well I just we'll see what they go with but I'm a little worried about throwing him into the fire like that unless they cut his minutes back. Maybe we even see 7 defensemen just to rotate him.

Capfriendly says Stalock is up with the Ducks on an emergency loan, so he wouldn't require waivers to go back down. And with the roster freeze, he stays with the Ducks until at least December 28th even if Gibson comes back before then.

Ah OK. That makes sense. Wouldn't want to lose Stalock even though he's playing with the Gulls.

  17. 3 minutes ago, dtsdlaw said:

I would actually be interested in seeing the following for a few games:

    Fowler-Gudas

    Mintyukov-Lyubushkin

    LaCombe-Drysdale

That third pairing might even end up being be a solid top-4 pairing for us in a year or two.

I'd be down to try that. I thought they should give Fowler and gudas a chance before.

  18. 1 minute ago, tommer-1 said:

    No.  That's RH/RH and LH/LH.  That's sub-optimal.

Lacombe has already been playing with Fowler. Jamie is going to get destroyed playing top pair minutes in his first game back. That's just asking for injury trouble.

  19. 2 minutes ago, tommer-1 said:

    No.

    They are going leftie/rightie, vet/kid.

No way he pairs up with LaCombe, Mintyukov, or Vakaanainen.

Those pairings make the most sense.  Leftie/Rightie, Vet/Kid.

Huh? I'm confused. Oh I think you misunderstood me. I'm saying Jamie with Gudas and Lacombe with Fowler.

    Status report

McTavish and Drysdale are probable to return. McTavish has missed the past seven games with an upper-body injury and Drysdale the past 29 games with a lower-body injury. … Gibson will back up Dostal after missing a 4-3 win against the Detroit Red Wings on Monday due to the birth of his third child. ... The Ducks recalled Stalock, a goalie, from San Diego of the American Hockey League on Wednesday and reassigned goalie Calle Clang to San Diego. ... Lundestrom, a forward, went through a full practice on Wednesday and is close to making his season debut. He had surgery for an Achilles injury in early August. ... Zegras, a forward, has been skating regularly, but there's no timetable for his return. He has missed the past 19 games.

Injuries have definitely been a factor this season.  Including Killorn missing the first 10 games.

Lundy needs to be careful not to come back too early. It's easy to aggravate the injury again.

Why did we bring up Stalock? Now if we send him through waivers someone might pick him up. Seems like a possible trade might be coming....

No way we're going to pair Jamie with Fowler. Ease him into the lineup. Play him with Gudas, he'd watch him out on the ice to make sure guys aren't taking liberties with him.

i'm guessing Lunds'll be on a conditioning loan to the Gulls for whatever that maximum is (2 weeks?).  We have quite a few guys that could get waived down, though my skin itches a bit with who might be grabbed if we do waive them down (don't think we'll waive any of the waiver exempt contracts).

I guess we could play games with Leo for a few months more if we needed to. otherwise, Groulx, Leason, Johnston, and there's a chance one of them would be picked up if waived.

if we CAN get some of our non-waiver exempt forwards down to the Gulls, we have a ton of guys we could bring up and pop down for the rest of the season, which would be interesting.

Side note - it's a little weird seeing our cap hit inch up the ranks during the season.  i think we were second to the bottom at one point, and now we're 4th.  is that a sign that Nash and Buff are playing for a high draft spot?

Of Johnston was to get picked up I wouldn't be upset. I'd want to hang onto Groulx and Leason,  more so Groulx. Idk he's got decent potential to be a good 3rd/ 4th liner for this team. But none of those guys are going to be someone we lose sleep over. I'm not trying to be harsh but they don't really move the needle much.
