    Hey Ike,

Please don't compare Z to a Teemu. Teemu is a legend and an ambassador for hockey.

First, look at the video when Teemu came to the NHL. He played defense and got into fights.

Secondly, Z needs to prove himself as an NHL team player, stop turning the puck so much, and expect the defense to bail him out. Don't forget he laughed when the coaches told him to play defense.

Third, Z will NEVER be a Teemu or come close to it in his wildest dream.

    Kapish?

    Saku?? Is that you?

id love to have Nylander...wish we could have gotten him before this season....ive been in on him way back during the Manson to Toronto rumors...he's gonna be expensive now though...and it's gonna cost a lot to get him out of Toronto (unless GMBT completely low balls him)...

If we can get Laine without losing MacT, Z, Leo, Minty, OZ, Dostal, TT, JLC, Drys...I'd be interested. INTERESTED...still not sure how on board I'd be. I mean, i'm not even sure if id be ok with losing Gaucher or Warren but I probably could stomach those moving out more than the others.

    My preciousssssssss..... lol😂

I agree. As good as Lindholm is, he pushes either McTavish or Carlsson out of the middle, and I don't think that's the direction Verbeek really wants to go at this point. A scoring winger to bump Silf from the top-9 is really what this team needs right now more than anything else.

That said, I'm still taking a serious look at Zadorov if I'm GMPV. He's an instant upgrade over Lyubushkin and Vaakanainen and he plays both sides of the ice pretty well. He's also Russian, and would be a nice replacement for Boosh on Mintyukov's right side. I know he's a pending UFA, but I think that brings his price tag down such that he could probably be had for one of our extra 3rd rounders + Vaks or Boosh. And if he works with Mintyukov, then Verbeek could just re-sign him for a couple of seasons while Drysdale, Luneau, and Warren continue to cook. And wouldn't this look a lot better for the second half of the season:

    Fowler-Drysdale

    Mintyukov-Zadorov

    LaCombe-Gudas

I think Calgary needs to rebuild at this point. They're probably looking at picks and prospects right now. Not sure on what his price would be though. But I'd consider upgrading Lyubushkin. He checks a lot of the same boxes but I think he's probably better at defense.

    15th seems ok.

i think kicking the PP while Z and Drys are out might be premature.  doing it while TT and most of the rest of the offensive stars are having trouble (Minty has gone slightly silent?) might also be premature.

shrug.  the PP has made some headway this season.  i think we could definitely shake some things up in terms of lines and maybe some new plays, but i don't think we're currently in a situation where we fire anyone.

if you ARE going to advocate firing someone, why not suggest an actual name of someone who would take their place?

side note - if i were going to fire someone right now, i'd be dead-staring the gulls staff.

Wasn't Maclvaine (sp?) Supposed to be the Ducks future coach and the guy who currently is (Cronin) was just a stand in until he's really ready? Lol what happened? I mean I'm asking seriously here, I haven't been following the Gulls so I don't really know. Is it really that bad?

I have to admit, Gibson is playing better the last 3-4 games, let's see how long he'll stay healthy, without injuring his glass organs. A 20+ games streak without getting injured and something above .910% SV would be great for this team. I can't believe I even have to say it, since he's one of the highest paid goaltenders in the league.

Yeah no you're right. It's early in the season hopefully both goalies keep it up.

And how long would you wait by the phone for the Oilers to call back after they hang up on you?

If it's Chiarelli, 30 seconds max. He probably would call and say that's too generous. Remove the first rounder and we're golden!

  7. McDavid is going to be quite expensive so would Draisitl but to a lesser extent. I think I would trade for Draisitl, he'd be less expensive and still a very very good player. We don't need the best in the world, second best would be just fine. Lol all kidding aside the oilers need depth. They would get a haul for either player. If you're the oilers gm would you look to trade either one of them? They also need help now and not necessarily in the future so they'd be looking for less draft picks and prospects and more help now. They're currently in win now mode and the longer things don't change the shorter their window will be.

Well, Dostal is rookie of the month. He’s won every game but 1 that he has played in, including tonight’s now. He made several grade A clutch saves and he hasn’t let adversity get into his head at all. Gibson has never played this well, with this consistency in his Ducks career. Believe me, I wanted to be his #1 fan, but that has to be earned. I won’t just award him loyalty just because our announcers are paid to sing his praises. Other teams announcers don’t speak so glowingly about him. Dostal is only human also, but he’s a better goalie. His technique is solid. Square to the puck, moves great side to side, keeps his 5 hole covered and elbows in tight. Admittedly, it helps that his team is playing very well in front of him but as I’ve said, they trust him. I’ve been unhappy with Gibson for at least the last 5 seasons. At the very least they should keep whichever goalie is winning in net until he loses (back-to-backs excepted).

    Lol what?

Gibson won the Jennings with Anderson.

I'm not sure if you are aware or not but the team has been saddled with a guy named Dallas Eakins the past four seasons. He's finally gone now. The team is playing 1000x better. There's your reason.

  9. Looking at the games each goalie has played, Gibson has faced much higher grade teams than Dostal.

Gibson- Vegas, Dallas, Boston, Boston and then Pittsburgh (got hurt after the first period)

Dostal- Carolina, Arizona, Columbus, Philly and Pittsburgh (two periods after Gibson got hurt)

It makes sense that Gibson's numbers would take a higher hit. But this also shows that while Dostal is probably our future #1 at some point, they're sheltering him by playing the lower grade teams. They're still really good teams sure but besides Pittsburgh all those others are current cup contenders for Gibson. Gibson also hasn't given up more than three in any of those games while Dostal gave up 4 to the flyers but less than that in his other games.

Gibson has absolutely given his team the chance to win each of those games. Giving up three or less to current cup contenders is actually quite impressive.

    In fact here's his GA:

    Vegas-3

    Dallas-3

    Boston-2

    Boston-3

    Pittsburgh-1

So quit your wining people. 🤣

I don't know about the assignment part. TT has only taken one faceoff so he's not being asked to do that over Carlsson and Zegras. I just get the feeling that the Ducks are trying to fit a square peg in a round hole with those three playing together. This is what I thought would happen with drafting Carlsson and putting him in the middle. Zegras is at his best while playing center. Carlsson played LW in the SHL. I don't understand why the Ducks are so narrowly focused on trying to force Carlsson at C and Zegras at LW.

Yeah why not switch it up and place Carlsson on the wing? Maybe that helps them click and take off? I get that they want Carlsson at center because they see him there in the future but give Zegras that position and see what happens.

Even before last nights game the Pens were either 1st or 2nd in the league with shots on goal. After the game their average was 36 SOG. So they've shooting the puck a ton in October. I wouldn't go as far to say Dostal is a #1 yet. I'll just leave it as him being an excellent back-up and the heir to the throne.

I would agree. He needs more time. I'm glad they're sharing the workload more this year. It gives Gibson more time to rest and Dostal gets more time to prove himself. I said before the season that Dostal may become the starter towards the end of the season and we still needed Gibson. I still stand by that. Gibson for sure has to be feeling the heat that Dostal is creating though. New coaching staff isn't particular to Gibson so he's not owed as much starting time so this creates some healthy competition. I'm sure Gibson is happy though to finally be winning some games!

I think when the Ducks get healthy lines might end up looking more like this.... (when Leo is in the line up)

    Z-Leo-TT

    Vatrano-MacT-Strome

    Rico-Killorn-Silfv

    McGinn-Lundy-Leason

(although Lundy is out till February/March so maybe it's Carrick or Groulx...)

    Fowler/Drys

    Gudas/Minty

    Lyubushkin/JLC

    Gibson/Dostal

What about Jones? Silf should probably be on the fourth line at this point. But yeah that's my thinking too is that Killorn goes on the third line (at least to start).

Do you guys think it’s time for Johnston to be scratched. Might as have well have groulx play more. See if he can find chemistry on the 3rd or 4th line. ross is just a pylon, that holds the player he’s suppose to fight.

I don't mind playing groulx more. But I'm wondering when we'll see guys like regenda and Nestorenko in the lineup.

  14. 5 minutes ago, Gorbachav55 said:

I think Carlsson's previous workload dictates some of this.  But this is also (at the time of draft) the possible best player the Ducks have ever drafted.  I know, Kariya, Getzlaf, Perry, but those guys were all HoFers in retrospect. Carlsson was the 2nd overall pick in a draft that's projected to be one of the best ever.  You're going to be careful with that guy, and rightly so.

I don't see a problem with taking a careful approach but the way Verbeek said that quote begs the question why others aren't also treated the same way. Minty looks legit. Aren't you worried he's going to get burned out too? That might hurt his development, why aren't we doing that to him? It's sort of a double standard in a way. I don't mind them saying we're taking all the necessary precautions with this kid and he needs to work on his development off the ice too. Just be more open with the fans is all I'm saying. Seems like fans would be more understanding and less critical of these types of things. The team management outlook on hockey is a fresh perspective after so many years of BM but the secrecy continues. And it doesn't help that we've basically got no media to cover the team.

This is it!! This is the end of a rebuild and beginning of the future we’ve been waiting for!

    Mintyukov is a golden goose

    Carlsson is so damn solid

Zegras is backchecking and doing it well

    Terry is shooting

McTavish is a 200 foot player

    Vatrano is a workhorse

Combo of Gudas and Boosh makes teams second guess laying a hand on our players

With the CoCro (coach Cronin… eh?) putting an emphasis on defense, our goalies don’t have to save us nearly half as much as before.

I can see it. We’re there. This is it. This is what we’ve been emotionally invested for. I’m ready to love again. The Ducks are back!

All this after one game? Lol

Jk I know what you mean. Funny thing is you mentioned Vatrano, Gudas and Boosh. It's not long ago that all these signings and Strome got heavily criticized as bad signings. Now after a few decent/ good games their getting some praise. Granted Gudas still isn't that great but whatever. Some of the other signings are doing pretty good especially the Vatrano-McT- Strome line. Two players, especially Strome, who got criticized by the fan base and rightfully so (for last year) are now doing great. Killorn still hasn't played. Perhaps we might change our tune a little and gives props to Verbeek, I certainly am. He's so far brought in the necessary people and most importantly we've gotten a real coach again! Cronin has so far impressed me. The special teams coaches are meh but Cronin definitely deserves credit for turning this team around. We're fun to watch again and we actually have a chance to win games again.

It's all just speculation though. The only thing that Verbeek has actually said is that he understands how much of a grind the season is and that he wore down over the course of the season when he was a rookie, so he wants Leo play less early in the season so that he can be a workhorse towards the end of the season. Everything beyond that is just made up. The special workouts, the recovery from his 102 games last season (of which most had been played by early April), fans are doing yeoman's work in trying to create a narrative beyond what Verbeek has actually said. But here's Verbeek's actual quote from the Eric Stephens piece:

Verbeek is just resting him so he doesn't wear down half way through the season. I take him at his word. There's nothing in there about special workouts or anything else. He's just resting. Two games per week, rest during any other games they play.

So why aren't we doing this with the other rookies? Why didn't Verbeek do it with McT? Because he's his #2 OA? McT played a ton before, was 3rd OA and didn't get this "hit the wall" treatment. Seems to me Verbeek is just being extra cautious with Carlsson. That's fine whatever. There's nothing wrong with being cautious. But it seems rather weird to do this with one rookie when others aren't if the main reason is they get burned out.
