  1. I am trying to remember, when was the last time a small market team won 1st overall pick: Arizona, Anaheim, Columbus, Nashville, San Jose? I am trying to recall it in my memory and can't. The only small market team that won 1st overall is Buffalo Sables in 2021 - one of the weakest drafts in NHL history. I don't believe in conspiracy, but I find it amazing.
  2. Don't know if you old enough to remember Paul Kariya. The guy was generously listed as 5.9", 175lbs, but every time he jumped on ice, the opposing D-men were in panic mode. His shot from PP was like a cannon, 90-95Mph, I remember a game when he shot at Atlanta Thrashers goaltender, the poor guy fell into the net together with the puck, and had a hard time getting up. Selanne and Scotty were great, agree, Pronger stint with the Ducks lasted only 2 years, Getz and Perry were great as well, but not superstars. That's why I am so excited about Berard: small, fast high-scoring forward with the killer shot. He maybe be our another Kariya, LOL.
  3. I don't want Leo Carlsson. I want Berard! Imagine, for the first time since Paul Kariya we would have a real superstar, a real difference maker!
  4. Kopitar is nominated for Lady Byng Award again. Played all 82 games with only few penalty minutes. This guy always amazed me: whenever he plays, 5-5, PP, PK, he's been dominant for Hollywood team for 17 years. A true professional. Oh, if we chose him in 2005 instead of Bobby Ryan, I am sure the Ducks would win it all in 2014-2015 season.
  5. Oh, Boston. Boston. Suck a great regular season and all for nothing.
  6. Goaltending wasn't bad, actually. What do you think, if our legend played for them, the outcome would be different?
  7. Corey Perry is UFA. Singing him to 1 year inexpensive contract would make a good sense for Ducks for these reasons: 1) To mentor our young forwards group 2) To "get under the skin" of opposing defenseman, as he usually does during his career. 3) He can "park" in front of opponent's net during Ducks PP, and it's hard to move him away 4) He's still popular among Ducks fans, and merchandise sale would go up. 5) If miracle happens, and Ducks somehow make playoffs next season, he's an excellent playoffs performer, If Ducks will miss playoffs again, as everybody expects, he'll fetch 3rd or 4th round pick at trade deadline.
  8. Don't worry about Rob Blake, he did a good job for his team. Not to take anything away from the Oilers, but I wonder if the series outcome would have been the same if Kevin Fiala played in every game. He missed the first 3 games because of injury, played the last 3 games being hurt and still had 6 points in the last 3 games, giving Hollywood's team offence a significant boost. But once again, I can't care less about Hollywood team and Blake. If you are Ducks fan, I would rather worry about PV signing bad contract with non-productive Strome + taking on bad contract of McGinn. In salary-cap era these money could be used somewhere else.
  9. Please read my comments carefully. I didn't say Ullmark is bad, I said 1 bad game by goaltender cost team a loss. While during a season you can get away with bad performance here and there, in playoffs it has a significant impact.
  10. Poor goaltending. I keep repeating over and over again: goaltending is critical in the playoff games.
  11. Another example of how the goalies can decide the outcome of the game is yesterday's match Toronto vs. Tampa. Vasilevsky "went Gibson" the first 4 games and suddenly Tampa is down 3-1. Yesterday Vasilevsky was at his best at 36-38, .933%, Tampa won and still alive. Yep, .899% and 4.0 GAA won't take your team far, no matter how good is it.
  12. Yesterday Korpisalo reminded me of our legend. But it's not his fault, he can do only so much. Kings had bad defense that let him down. If Kings had a good defensive corps in front of him, he would be one of the best goaltenders in the league.
  13. A guy from nowhere, literally. Just curious, what is the average salary of minor league coach in AHL?
  14. I am OK with Michkov as long as he comes to North America. People who don't read in other languages probably did not see this article. He signed 5 years contract in Russia and seems to be very happy. https://news.sportbox.ru/Vidy_sporta/Hokkej/KHL/spbnews_NI1289526_16_letnij_Matvej_Michkov_Ejforii_ot_summy_kontrakta_so_SKA_net_Sobirajus_vse_zarabotannyje_dengi_otdat_roditelam
  15. Seems like you guys are missing my point, or I didn't explain myself clearly. What I am trying to say is that goaltending is so crucial nowadays, that no matter how good defense is, an average goaltender will drug the entire team down. Vasilevsky was great the last 4-5 seasons, but this season he decided to turn Gibson and take a season-long sabbatical. The results are obvious: goalies need to raise to occasion during playoffs, you can't be just average. I hear statements over and over again that Ducks goalies below .900 because of defense, but look at Tampa, they have one of the best defensive corps in the league and underperforming goaltender. Tampa's season may be over soon. As far as Ducks team: I know either GM or someone from his office reading these comments. The message that I am trying to send is it's time to find a taker for Gibson and look for a better goaltender either thru UFA or trade.
  16. Another example of bad goaltending that letting team down: Tampa Bay. Great roster + Vasilevsky who's having a season off. As a result, Tampa Bay instead of being up 3-1 is down 1-3 and most likely will be eliminated in the first round. Take another note, Verbeek.
  17. Oilers would be 3-1 if they had a good goaltending. But it is what it is.
  18. Hats off Rob Blake for quickly recognizing goaltending problem. He moved underperforming starting goalie with guaranteed contract to minor league and quickly found a very good goaltender who's caring Hollywood team in the playoffs. Imagine, if Hollywood team had a goalie with average .899%? They would do down 3-0 by now, Take notes, Verbeek.
  19. If next season goaltending is similar to what it was past season, Ducks may look for outside help to fill the void. OEE numbers are simply not good, Clang and Buteyets are dark horses, and we don't even know if they'll make it to NHL, Dostal was OK but not great and Gibson we already discussed, see above. In this case, next summer the only fast solution for goaltending improvement would be to fix it thru trade or UFA.
  20. I won't be surprised if last 2 years of Gibson's contract will be bought out by Ducks, similar to what they did to Perry. Other option is to bury him in the minors, similar to what Kings did to Peterson, but $6.4mil still would count against salary cap. Touch choice, but, assuming the Ducks will make playoffs 2 years from now, mediocre goaltending performance is unacceptable.
  21. Of cause it's not all Gibson's fault, but his poor performance past season contributed to complete team's failure.
  22. The more I watch Korpisalo, the more I am impressed with him. He faced 40 shots in game 1 and 36 shots in game 2. If it wasn't him, the Hollywood team would be down 2-0. Good job by GM Blake by quickly recognizing a serious goaltending problem and getting a very good goalie for aging, non-productive team's "legend". Korpisalo current salary is $1.3mil. He will be UFA after this season.
  23. I am with Tommer. I don't see Gibson going over .905% for the rest of his career. Every new season he plays worse than previous. Even with Lindholm and Manson on D, he was allowing a lot of softies. It would take a miracle for PV to move his contract without taking bad contract back. In fact, I can see Ducks waiving the last year or possibly two years of his contract, just like they did it with Perry.
  24. You talking like trading Gibson would be a disaster. It won't be. Every summer there is no shortage of good quality goaltenders, + 3-4 young goaltenders come into this league every season. Sign Korpisalo for less than half of Gibson's money and let him compete with Dostal for starting position. As far as Debricant, he already has a contract in place, he won't command anything. Ducks failed measurably this season. As one wise man said, if things don't work, try something DIFFERENT.
