  1. it kind of seems the more we get glimpses into scouts opinions, it feels like Fantilli is held in much higher regards than Carlsson
  2. Daniil But is interesting he’s 6’5 200lbs with a lethal shot, sick hands and great playmaking. He’s not a physical, powerful player and his skating is a weakness, but don’t find a lot of 6’5 snipers with great hands and playmaking skills every day.
  3. That’s about what I thought he would get in Free agency. Honestly I can’t see Verbeek adding too much defensemen this offseason outside of an unforeseen trade. A couple names are interesting, but it’s going to be expensive with probably the best free agent off the board now
  4. here’s an a section of EP’s report on Fantilli “…Not content to fade from the game off-puck, Fantilli probed for shooting opportunities during sustained in-zone possessions, managing space, timing his arrivals perfectly, and sending the puck on goal with force and precision as a one- and two-touch finisher. The one-timer was particularly potent. You aren’t likely to see Fantilli enter the Frank J. Selke conversation at any point in his career, but he’s well-beyond baseline competent as a defensive player and even featured regularly on Michigan’s penalty kill as an 18-year-old. He’s physical. His motor never stops. And his on-ice intelligence is ever-present in the defensive and neutral zones as it is the offensive third. That part of the game won’t be an obstacle to his NHL transition, but Fantilli’s tendency to play hero puck may prove prohibitive to immediate success. It’s a delicate balancing act. You want the best, most talented players to have the freedom to impose their will on the opposition, but it can’t come at the expense of your team’s ability to control the run of play. Fantilli didn’t always walk that line with the most grace at Michigan. Still, as far as knocks go, “He wants to take over the games a little too much for his own damn good” is about as desirable a flaw as you can have at this stage in your career. Since when were 18-year-olds renowned for their discretion anyway? He’ll acquire it in time, just like everyone else. When it all comes together, Fantilli has the potential to be a franchise-altering first-line centre, the type that can take over a game or even a playoff series when the chips are down. The power. The skill. The competitiveness. It’s all there, and it makes him one of the most extraordinary players in this class.”
  5. I don’t really think Fantilli has bad hockey IQ, it’s been reported he has very good IQ, the issue I read a lot was he tried to be the hero too much, which is kind of good/bad. I like that he wants the puck on his stick and wants to make it all happen. Idk, obviously I think it’ll be a conversation between Fantilli and whoever drafts him. I would be interested to hear that he or the team would think he would gain from playing in college again.
  6. I wouldn’t be shocked. I just question what he would gain for it. Top 3 collegiate season for a freshman ever, Hobey Baker. It wouldn’t hurt, but I don’t know what he would gain from it development wise
  7. While you fill your diaper at the sight of any positive changes. I’ll be having fun. So good luck with that.
  8. Trevor Zegras Mason McTavish Return of the Drysdale New GM New Coach 2nd overall pick Defensemen of the year in all three Canadian hockey leagues Mintyukov and Zellweger being close One of the best prospect Pools in the league we weren’t the team to hire Babcock Getting looks at Dostal, Lacombe, Helleson, feels like we’re finally getting to see some of the prospects hit the big show. I get we’re bad, but we were terrible in probably the best season to be terrible with a fantastic draft. im a negative guy around here, but take a breath man.
  9. No, but people keep suggesting players that are only that, which was my point you keep ignoring to use buzzwords that don’t apply. When people, even nhl people say they want to he physical and sign a bunch of slow, big guys who can’t drive play it takes up roster space and gives you liabilities in your line up. So sure, I don’t mind getting bigger and more physical, I just want to make sure we are targeting players who make the team better, not just play physical. Idk man, we just seem to be talking in circles here without even really disagreeing
  10. Just for the record Tommer I’m not saying you want these things specifically, just that it’s an observation. I don’t mind the grit and toughness, but what I see that this team is capable is being relentless and pests to play against. Can I see Zegras crunching guys in open ice? No, but I can see him being relentless on the forecheck, disrupting break out passes and possessing the puck more. And when I hear Cronin speak I think that’s the goal more than crushing guys all game. And I think that’s an attainable goal without trying to overhaul what you have and what you have in the oven.
  11. Yes, but it’s different. They were out of any contention like 20 games into the season, they were getting blown out most every night, the coach self admitted they had no direction on the ice and were simply trying to keep their heads up. You’re divorcing all context from your stats. You’re not overhauling the entire roster, sure you can add supplemental guys around the core, but they sure as hell be good players. It’s not a strawman, you’re not using that term correctly or are misunderstanding. Every week this board has posts about guys like Lucic, Myers, Deslaurier and their ilk. Those guys cannot play hockey well enough. You also say that you KNOW who will or will not play physical. You don’t, you can assume and you may be correct, but you don’t know. The whole point in hiring a guy like Cronin is to get guys to buy into his system. I think it’s impossible to derive too many meaningful information from a season as catastrophically bad as they were last year outside of the coach needs to go. I have my concerns about individual players and doubts, but I don’t know for sure that they can’t turn it on or engage with. Cronin’s message.
  12. When I hear Cronin talk about what he likes and wants I think of Zach Hyman. He’s not a big bruiser, but he gets in on you fast, harasses you, makes you fight for ever inch and second you have the puck, makes you make mistakes. Colorado plays the same way, they don’t have a lot of the prototypical big, bruising, crushing hits guys, but they are relentless they never let you have the puck for long. im optimistic that if guys figure it out. If Max Jones can be what he was late last year it could be a coming out party, he was relentless, tenacious and imposed his will on defensemen, Comtois could be someone like that, Vatrano is a pest, even Zegras has some bite and pest qualities in his game. I think it’s less important that we go out and get guys who do the thing he’s talking about and more important that guys we have buy into it.
  13. The whole point of his quote is that he wants everyone to do it, and he also says that he wants guys who can play hockey outside of hitting people, which people on this board seem to forget, that there’s a whole game going on outside of chasing the puck around and hitting guys. If the goal is to be big and punishing, Vegas is a good example all of their big punishing guys are playing great hockey. Carrier has been one of the most effective depth players in the league, Barbashev is playing out of his mind, Amadio is solid. Ducks have to find guys like that, not the Megna’s, Gawdin’s, White’s Harringtons that are constantly on this roster.
  14. Cronin is definitely selling me with what he’s saying. He seems to have a good understanding of what makes an effective hockey player and what you should look for in tough and physical players. Whenever he talks I feel a little more at ease than I was at the beginning.
  15. Kings/Philly/Columbus with a three team trade for Provorov Peterson on the move from LA it was also reported Philly is working on a trade involving Carter Hart, so some movement on the goaltender front, could be relevant.
  16. Yes I’m sure the Klingberg deal had so much to do with the extensions /sarcasm
  17. We got an interesting younger player for someone who was never going to be here. I doubt and Klingberg was signed just to get to the cap floor.
  18. I mean the number on a 1 year is almost irrelevant. And even if he did that, whatever it didn’t matter and whatever you get is found money.
  19. I wonder if the Ducks could give Drouin a Klingberg type deal. 1 year, maybe we trade you at the deadline.
  20. Elite Prospects put out their draft guide today. I would really recommend a sub to their site if you’ve got extra cash. The guides are really in depth and provide a lot of insight. we all know the guys at 2. Ethan Gauthier was ranked 31, the guide talked a lot about his motor and compete level, he’s relentless, very physical for size. He’s good at getting pucks out from the boards and hitting his teammates in transition. I can see a lot of appeal here. He’s a tad small at 5’11 176, but he plays much bigger Nick Lardis ranked 33 was a name mocked to the Ducks. He’s a shooter with a lethal shot and loves to get the puck on net. He had a slow stert with the Pete’s, but was traded to Hamilton and then scored 25 goals and 21 assists in 33 games. The game they describe Lardis plays sounds a lot like Terry. Likes to use defensemen for screens, likes to attack defensemen and get the puck to the center of the ice he’s got a good motor, but isn’t overly physical. Lukas Dragicevic ranked 38, EP has him as the best offensive defensemen in the draft. He was a constant threat and all of Tri-City’s offense ran through him. 6’2 180, has nhl size, but plays a much smaller game. He’s very good at breaking the puck out. Coulson Pitre ranked 53, another high motor, physical competitive forward with decent size. Jack of all trades, master of none type guy, but competes all over the ice. Some other guys like Pekarcik, Dower-Nilsson and more stand out as guys with size and motor
  21. Babcock was an abusive PoS. One of these days we will stop attributing 2003 to him.
  22. I listened to his appearance on the Ducks Stream and watched the press conference. He’s a likable, well spoken guy. I was impressed with his knowledge and emphasis on compassion and getting to know guys outside of being hockey players. He talks pretty in-depth about his utilization of analytics and it was music to my ears. I’m still not nuts about how his AHL team played, but I feel a lot better about this than I did a few hours ago.
