  1. The whole reason it’s great to have the 2nd pick, you can choose. I like Fantilli more, but Carlsson has been producing against men, had a great WJ and then a great showing for Sweden. It’s not hard to see his qualities. I wouldn’t be shocked if we select Carlsson, but I would be surprised given all of Verbeek’s comments about the identity he wants to establish.
  2. I kind of feel like every year as we get closer to the draft and these anonymous guys start talking it seems like everyone tries to Galaxy brain the draft. I also think given the league’s that these guys play in, i would assume some of these guys have only really watched one of these guys on a consistent basis outside of the world juniors and World Cup or whatever, so they’re just picking their guy.
  3. On the Podcast he mentioned Kalan Lind as a Duck’s type guy. Reading his report, was interesting. He’s a beanpole, 6’0 154 lbs, but unendingly physical, constantly taking the body, throwing hits, reverse hits, but has a lot of finesse to his game to finish or facilitate play. Ranked #44 by EP Koehn Ziemmer his game was described as “an IV of (often unpenalized) violence” with a goal scorers talent. He has bad skating, but has a ton of offensive smarts and never shoes away from the physical gamz ranked #40
  4. I don’t know if any of y’all listen to Crash the Pond podcast, but they had Mitch Brown from EP on and he had some really good insights on prospect sun the draft and on our system.
  5. To support this, I heard all year that Bedard is very strong for his size. I heard the same about Zellweger.
  6. It was found money in my opinion. Klingberg has nowhere to go after his agent botched negotiations, he signed him to get value. At some point the blame is on Klingberg. He was truly awful for the first 2-3 months of the season, to the point where he had near zero value. Klingberg was an elite offensive, terrible defensive defensemen beforehand, it was a sensible bet. It didn’t go great, but he got stuff he didn’t have prior and the world keeps spinning. I don’t really think it has much reflection on Verbeek at all. I personally think his first draft is coming away looking closer to great than not. Mintyukov, Gaucher, Luneau are all looking like home runs l, Warren is interesting. I think some of the later guys aren’t inspiring, but Hvidston was solid. Obviously still only a year out, but it’s looking very promising.
  7. I don’t think he made active attempts to be this bad. I’m not alone in saying that there is no way that this team was meant to be THOS bad, I just think he let it happen once it was apparent the team was performing this poorly. I wouldn’t call it a success, but these picks can be huge springboards, if you had to pick a draft to get a 2nd overall pick, it’s probably this one. Now you add Fantilli/Carlsson, maybe Michkov to a very stacked prospect system. There’s a lot to be excited about and Verbeek has done a solid job position this squad to start taking steps. He came in and started a rebuild 2-3 years later than it should have been started, freed up this team to be flexible and stert taking steps. Gorb is right that this is the first season where it’s all on him. No excuses. My original question is what should he have done differently? Other than ancillary moves that don’t make any real difference. Team has like 40 million in cap space, can’t imagine signing all 3 of JD, Z and TT being more than 20, then you have Rico, Silf and Gibson all most likely coming off the books via trade or FA next year. This team is in a very solid position. Now he has to add, which is the hard part.
  8. I’m an inpatient person, so I got restless, but ultimately none of the inaction really made any difference. i don’t really think the Klingberg situation was all that bad, it didn’t go super well, but it doesn’t have any lasting effects. In my opinion Strome might be the worst looking move at this point in time. I’m optimistic he can be a solid player for a better version of this team.
  9. Ducks probably just match that, but if they don’t Chicago has to give us 2 1st round picks 1 2nd rounder and 1 3rd rounder.
  10. I’d be interested to know what Verbeek could have done in some of your eyes that would have made you feel positively. I think he’s done a mostly pretty good job. I think his short comings have been around the edge, I think letting Milano walk was dumb, not claiming Tolvanen was dumb, but I don’t think any of his “mistakes” really change anything. The biggest being Eakins, but he got the 2nd overall pick and got a guy he likes now. His first draft crop is shaking out pretty well so far. He’s done a good job of keeping the team cap flexible. I’m not sure what more he could do, given the spot the team was in when he took over
  11. I’m fine with orange, I just think that the egg plant and jade is iconic and I find it odd that the team has mostly avoided it. At least do a 3rd alternate throwback jersey and wear it 7-10 games a season
  12. I really doubt any of them are getting offer sheeted
  13. Idk if it’s episodic or not, but I watched the premier and it was pretty cool. It again brings up the idea of bringing back the OG jersey‘s. I would would argue that that logo and color scheme are one of the most recognizable iconographies in sports. The team is sitting on a goldmine, just make the change, it’s so much cooler and more interesting than the orange.
  14. I also imagine it’s a very difficult thing to organize. Like what is the value Dadanov to the Ducks? I want to say the Ducks were supposed to get a 2nd round pick, and then you imagine Dadanov would get moved at the deadline. Then you can factor in what Dadanov would have provided on the ice. Complicated thing really
  15. Also he’s identified as Mackinnon and Matthew Tkachuk as guys he tries to emulate, for whatever that is worth.
  16. I’ve not seen many people say, “Fantilli plays like blank” without some qualifiers that it’s not exact. He kind of reminds me of Mackinnon the way that they play in straight lines, with high speed and intensity. EP has a “shades of” part in their report and they have Tage Thompson and Malkin for Fantilli.
  17. He submitted his list apparently, obviously no idea if we’re on there. So yeah, lots of things would have to fall in like for us to even have a shot, so I’m not holding my breath or anything
  18. Personally I think a 2nd and Gibson should get it done. I wouldn’t do more than that personally. & wouldn’t mind the AAV it would be term for me. 6 years would be ideal, but you almost always gotta give that type of guy the extra 1-2 years.
  19. It’s always easier in hindsight, I’m not familiar at all with Draisaitl’s scouting reports his draft year, but there’s always situations like that, Seider comes to mind.
  20. It’s tough to tell, but it’s not hard to imagine someone spending a late first rounder on him, simply for the physical tools. But a lot of times past 15-16 the draft can get whacky, so never know.
  21. True true, forgot about the NMC. I am definitely interested in Debrincat, term could be an issue, but the Ducks don’t really have a lot of winger’s in the system. Debrincat’s disappointing season would’ve let our team in goals and points this year lol.
  22. Like I wonder if Debrincat with an extension for Gibson could be a foundation for a deal. Debrincat is probably the most impactful thing you could acquire for Gibson at this point. Ottawa needs a goalie and doesn’t sound like there’s any mutual interest in Debrincat staying.
  23. Yeah, but Severson is a top pairing, right handed defensemen who showed he could play difficult, quality minutes on a bad team. Can’t be a direct comparisons, but you can compare fruits
  24. Just a thought, Severson was acquired for a 3rd rounder with a contract. I do kind of wonder what the cost for Debrincat would be. Coming off a disappointing season with the senators. If that’s the cost I would love for the Ducks to sniff around
  25. Yeah, obviously we don’t know how it’ll go, but it’s interesting to see Fantilli start to long “pull away” in terms of scouting opinions.
