  1. this is the first thing from Verbeek that’s given me some confidence
  2. Elite Prospects released their draft guide and a NHL scout he thought Fantilli was closer to Bedard than Carlsson is to Fantilli
  3. Just give him 8 years at 8.5 he’s worth it. He’s going to get better, don’t nickel and dime your stars.
  4. Idk, smarter people than me seem excited about this. So maybe I’m just dumb. Entirely possible
  5. The more I look into the teams he coached the more disappointed I am. No real notable NHLers developed in his tenure in the AHLers. He was an assistant on the worst Leafs teams in recent memory, no real playoff success. Teams struggle to score goals.
  6. I looked at the roster’s for his teams in Colorado, he’s not really turned out any real notable NHLers since being there. Newhook and Graves are the only guys that really stand out to me. As far as I can tell he never coached Makar.
  7. Tkachuk is the exact reason why you don’t want to do that type of deal. Just sign the kid, stop playing these dumb games.
  8. My worry is that the Islanders are constant proof that you need to be able to score goals. And historically that’s an issue with teams that play like them.
  9. No, I’m disappointed because I don’t like the way his team played, which is exactly what my post said? I’m not a fan of boring, low event hockey, and I also don’t know that it’s really conducive to the roster that the team has or will have. I’ll try and be optimistic that his team has had success and that he can get the team to play a better defensive game, but I don’t want to see the best assets of the best players on this team be coached out of their game in the name of “playing the game the right way”
  10. this is a good mindset at the very least. I’ll try and be cautiously optimistic
  11. Gibson has had elite athleticism, probably some of the best in the league. My concern is that he’s already lost the ability to be that athletic or will lose it as he ages. Gibby’s style is so evident when you compare how he and someone like Dostal play the position.
  12. I mean Hill is a free agent. No goalie makes this team worse, they were already the worst lol. My point is there’s always goalies available, I don’t know which one is good, I don’t get paid millions of dollars to know that information. The point is other smart teams figure it out and the Ducks need to be that team. Whether you have a tandem like Boston, LA made shrewed moves and figured it out after getting burned by the Peterson deal. If your point is that the guys like Hill and company are only good because their own good teams, then when the Ducks are good they should be able to have that in Dostal or a back up or a tandem, Gibson isn’t going to be the answer because he’s going to be over 30 years old. Gibson isn’t going to “Shepherd” anyone, it’s been widely reported that he wants the net every single night, thats who he is, even at Gibson’s best he’s not a workhorse, he’s always faltered and was better suited in a tandem. We always get 1 month or so of “old Gibby” and it convinces everyone that he’s gonna be himself again and for four straight years he hasn’t been. I don’t doubt Gibby can be good on another term, but it’s not going to be this one and I’m not betting on a guy who’s going to be over 30 and hasn’t given you a good season in 4 years to be the guy when this team is good again. Save the 6.4 million dollars a year, improve the team with it, get some value for the guy and get a look at what you have or what you can find. And when the Ducks are good, they can find the samsanov’s, the korpisalo’s the Hill’s etc, other teams do it all the time.
  13. One of these days we’ll all grow up and realize Gibson was not that good for us, the last few years. His age doesn’t align with our timeline, he makes way too much money. What happens if he’s bad again next year? We’ve been playing this game for 4 years now. It’s never gibson’s fault. There’s been a trend with smart teams and that’s not being tied down to bloated goaltender contracts. What I was saying is you could probably find a guy who plays better for like 2-3 million dollars less for much less term. Goalies are weird and tend to be inconsistent. Markstrom had a season so good he convinced Vancouver they were competitors, was terrible, then good, then terrible again. Vasilevsky was a huge reason Tampa lost to Toronto this year. Bob bounces from being one of the worst contracts in the league to elite, carry my team on the back type goaltender. Vegas made it to the Cup finals on the back of Adin Hill. Samsonov gave Toronto good starts and was a waiver claim. My point you decided to completely miss is that almost every year there are goaltenders that over perform expectations, maybe it’s Gibson, but we’ve been waiting for 4 straight years for that to happen and it hasn’t, to the point where his value has tanked, can you imagine if this team moved him 2-3 years ago when it was obvious this team wasn’t going to be good? Not to mention how much better is this team gonna be next year and if the whole reason Gibson is bad, is that the team is bad, okay well we’re still probably gonna be at least a little bad next year, trade him for value while you can. and like others are saying if he requested a trade it’s all moot anyway if he doesn’t want to be here
  14. I’m not sure if you’re being sarcastic or not, but Gibson has posted 4 straight subpar/replacement level goaltending seasons. You have two highly touted goaltender prospects one that has shown he’s ready to get a shot. 6.4 million dollars for 4 years is a lot of money, once those Terry, Zegras and Dryadale extensions come in, cap space will start shrinking. 6.4 million gets you a pretty good player or put it towards someone like Jesper Bratt. Or you can pay a .900 sv% goaltender until he’s 33.
  15. I was talking about Cal Peterson who didn’t even make it a year into his 3 year deal before he was sent to the AHL and the Kings had to trade for Korpisalo. at some point we have give Gibson some fault here. He’s not been good enough. I’ll take my chances with Dostal, sign a free agent and save the 6.4 million for the next few years.
  16. Except you can? We’ve seen a lot of teams grt weighed down by paying a flash in the pan goaltender a lot of money for a lot of years. Calgary St Louis LA Are teams that paid goalies and are hurting because of it, prior to the playoffs Florida was hurting. At some point you have to believe that what’s in front do you and Gibson hasn’t done himself any favors. It’s probably more likely than not Gibson can turn it around, but you have Dostal and Clang is close. There’s gonna be guys in FA, there’s always a guy who signs cheap in FA and over performs find that guy. Gibson has 4 more years at 6.4 and while it migjt not be a big deal now or next season. That’s a lot of money that could be going to a bad goalie in years you’d really like to have 6.4 million to spend to build on your core
  17. Goalies are just too turbulent. We’ve seen smart grams pivot from the big name backstop to cycling through guys they believe in until they become too expensive and then move on. There many different ways to win a cup, and trusting a goalie to carry significant weight for half a decade just doesn’t feel smart anymore unless you have the best of the best.
  18. I think we’re gonna be kind of disappointed with the return Ottawa: Proposal 1. Rights to Alex Debrincat Proposal 2: Egor Sokolov and a 1st Proposal 3. Brannstrom and a 3rd Pittsburgh: Proposal 1: Filip Hallander and a 2nd Proposal 2: Granlund + Owen Pickering + a 2nd New Jersey: Proposal 1: Gibson + for Bratt’s rights Proposal 2: Nolan Foote and a 2nd Toronto: Proposal 1: Tverberg and a 2nd NJ and Toronto are my two least likely destinations. They both got solid goaltending out of unexpected sources Vanecek was good until the playoffs, Schmid was inconsistent, but has flashes. Toronto has Samsanov and Woll both play well. Some proposals range from delusion to underselling probably, I am bad at this
  19. well, it’s reported that Gibson has requested a trade.
  20. Sure, my only objection is that they have almost nothing in the cupboards.
  21. They barely missed the playoffs, and had abhorrent goaltending all year. It’s not a matter of what is smart, you just gotta do it.
  22. I don’t think I’ve ever heard a comp to a Zegras for Carlsson. I see Carlsson as having a legit shot and being an nhl center. I think fantilli is better and based on Verbeek’s intentions to build a bigger, forechecking team, Fantilli is your guy.
  23. He was very solid for Tampa in a depth role and very good on their power play. I agree that outside of a retirement tour, there’s not much reason for him to come here. I’d rather pursue guys who can have a positive impact and Lucic is not that guy.
