I think I’d prefer someone richer who’s more interested in having a team as a hobby vs. running a business. Moreno ran the team as a business (unwilling to spend more than what the team brought in each year), and that didn’t work when he also meddled in the baseball side of things.
Samueli wouldn’t meddle, but I also don’t think he would take the Angels to the next level like Steve Cohen did with the Mets. I think Samueli would absolutely keep payroll in line with revenues. So I’d prefer some ultra rich guy come in, hire competent people, and then give them a near blank check to get it done. Steve Ballmer sounds pretty good (worth 98 billion dollars).
If not a guy like that, then I’d prefer an ownership group like the Dodgers have. Same kind of deal; lots of money to spend, they invest heavily in management, and then let them take care of everything from spending money on scouting/development to free agent acquisitions.
