  1. Well actually, reading dtsdlaw’s post, I’d only do it if I knew he would be extended. You’ll only get back a later round 1st at the trade deadline, a 2nd, and possibly some poor value throw-ins. That’s not worth having a player for 1.5 years doing nothing in a rebuild, and it would make the Ducks better which devalues our own picks.
  2. Considering all the draft capital we have these next two drafts, we could easily afforded to part with #10 and our 2 2nd’s this year. That extra 2nd should beat out the Sens being 3 spots ahead in the 1st and 2nd round. This is especially true since this draft is not thought of as being particularly good, so the odds are even more stacked against those picks being close to as good as Debrincat. His age works with our timeline as well. And we’d still have #22 to work with. I’d take the risk on Debrincat being a lesser player away from Kane, and the risk that the traded picks hit for what was given up.
  3. lol damn that is way less than the reported Blackhawks’ demand. If he manages to stay the same player without playing with Kane and the rest then that’s a huge steal.
  4. It seems like it’ll be hard to be upset with anyone at #10 given all the chatter around this years draft. Madden said there’s basically no difference between a top 5 pick and a guy available at 12 this year. Then you have a player like Kemell who’s ranked #3 overall by Button, and in the link above that Sexlaf provided he’s a late 1st round pick with no hockey IQ (though everywhere else I’ve seen him no lower than 12). I kind of like what I’m reading about Lekkerimaki, and he doesn’t turn 18 until July so he’s a later birthday.
  5. McKenzie’s final rankings are out (based on NHL scouts): https://www.tsn.ca/juraj-slafkovsky-shane-wright-bob-mckenzie-nhl-draft-ranking-1.1818585?tsn-amp Lots of interesting info in there. Slafkovsky edged out Wright for #1 overall, but according to these scouts there’s no slam dunk prospect in this draft. Some interesting quotes: ”Multiple scouts freely admitted that five years from now, the best player from the 2022 draft could be someone not named Slafkovsky or Wright. Some of them said they’re not necessarily convinced the top two picks in the draft will be Slafkovsky and Wright or vice versa.” “It feels like this year’s draft could see a lot of movement from these consensus rankings. That is, players slotted from Nos. 6 to 10 could be taken a few spots higher but could also go a half dozen spots later.” “If it’s extremely tight at the top end of the draft with Slafkovsky and Wright, and it is, it also holds true throughout much of the first round. There’s just not as much separation and fewer defined tiers of talent this year compared to others.” ”Many of the players ranked from Nos. 33 to around 50 on TSN’s list got enough consideration as first-round picks from scouts that they could move into the Top 32.”
  6. I’ll just link McKenzie‘s top 30 overall. It contains the top 13 D. Lindholm was #8. https://hfboards.mandatory.com/threads/tsn-bob-mckenzie-top-30-thread.1210711/
  7. Lindholm was actually thought to be a reach at #6. I just looked it up to make sure, and McKenzie’s rankings (based on scouts) had him at #15. The highest I found was Sportsnet at #11. Many places had him in the later part of the 1st round.
  8. Meh. I feel the same way about this as I did during the Beauchemin/Marchant trade all those years ago. Marchant made a huge stink, but Beauchemin was the real prize of that trade so I didn’t care about his issues. The irony of course is Marchant eventually went on to have a decent role in the organization. Worst case scenario, the Ducks bought a 2nd round pick for 6.5M, and can suspend him with pay if he’s being an unprofessional problem child.
  9. Sounds like Dadanov is going to get screwed because of a technicality. I don’t see the NHL voiding the trade if what is known as of now is correct. There would have to be evidence that his list was submitted to Vegas by July of last year and Vegas messed up. I doubt it.
  10. Hopefully Dadanov gets screwed in this situation. Don’t care about him, I want the pick.
  11. lol and it was reported Anaheim was on his list. Well, I don’t care. If he’d rather go back to Russia instead of playing with us then it’s still a win getting a 2nd. Not saying that will happen of course.
  12. I’m surprised Rakell brought back a 2nd and a decent goalie prospect. I thought the best he’d bring back was a 2nd and a barely prospect. This adds to all the smoke about Gibson today. Hopefully Verbeek nails that trade in the summer. I like buying a 2nd by picking up Dadanov. With any luck, Zegras can inflate his numbers next year and we can trade him for a 1st during next years deadline. Should be another 2nd at any rate as long as he’s not injured or doesn’t fall off a cliff.
  13. I would have liked to have gotten a better prospect instead of the extra 2nd round picks, especially since this was basically a sign and trade and not a rental. Overall, can’t be mad at all the draft capital Lindholm brought back, and a young defenseman who at least is good enough to play in the NHL right now.
  14. I’ve seen Leafs fans willing to part with a 1st and Matthew Knies for Lindholm. That would be a really good get. I’ve watched a bunch of Minnesota’s games and he really stands out. Too bad those fans aren’t the GM.
  15. Hopefully Verbeek knocks the trade out of the park. As much as the defense will take a hit without Lindholm, I really didn’t want to pay him 7 million+ for a bunch of years. It’ll be interesting to see his next contract. Maybe he’ll hit double digit goals playing for a good team like he did a few times for us when our team was good, and maybe he’ll be better overall playing with better players. That could make him worth the contract. The Hampus we’ve seen, and with the defense especially looking bare the next year or two, I just don’t see the Ducks getting value out of him for those years. Either way, come on Verbeek, get us a good prospect and a 1st!
  16. Helleson and a 2nd is a good get for Manson. Better return than I expected him to bring back. Helleson is a better prospect than LaCombe, and probably better than Thrun as well. That one is closer though.
  17. I mean if he really wanted them to have a superstar he’d rig it next year when Bedard is eligible. Wright’s stock is currently majorly down from what it was last summer; he’s no longer thought of as being a sure thing elite #1C.
  18. Reading the release, it sounds like he’s had little involvement in amateur scouting/development. He was always on the pro side.
  19. As of now, it’s looking like getting the 1st overall isn’t as big a deal as it might have seemed before the season began. Shane Wright might not even be the consensus #1 when it’s all said and done. His current pace of 1.25 points-per-game would be the lowest for any CHL player ever drafted 1st overall.
  20. This goal was way cooler than the Michigan. We’ve already seen that pulled off in a NHL game. I don’t think we’ve ever seen what Zegras did. Simply amazing.
  21. I remember seeing someone mention in the other topic how much it would cost to retain his rights next year. Went to find it and... “Pass on DeBrusk. He has a $3.675 cap hit but is making $4.85M in salary this season and is a pending RFA (with arbitration eligibility). I have no interest in the Ducks giving him a $4.85M qualifying offer next summer to retain his rights. If you want to give Steel a fresh start, send him to Chicago for Dylan Strome. Or preferably, find a mid-20s RHD we can trade for. Our depth on the right side of the blue line is concerning.” That was from dtsdlaw. Lol what happened? Yeah, forget trading for DeBrusk, especially doing it for a Tracey and a 3rd. DeBrusk’s value is at an all-time low, and Tracey is starting to rebound his with a great start to his AHL season. That’s a bad trade, and that $4.85m qualifying offer looks horrible right now.
  22. lol mentioning the money involved in two different sports. Even if you scale it down to McDavid or the like it still doesn’t even make sense to do that. It’s not like Zegras thinks of himself in that category. I doubt he suffers from delusions. The real comparison would be if you offered Zegras the same 8x8 that Hughes just got. What would happen? I think you’re delusional if you think he’s turning it down because of hurt feelings. You also conveniently didn’t mention the 1st Trout extension which was 6 years 144m, which was already a bargain for the kind of production Trout was putting up. The fact is if the best player in the game didn’t become a crybaby over CBA-approved contract methods, then I’m sure Zegras will be fine. Only fans worry about players’ hurt feelings over these kinds of things. Players understand it’s a business and if the money is there they often take it unless there’s some real circumstance that makes them want out. And that real circumstance isn’t, “they sent me down before I got to become a UFA a year earlier.” Maybe you’ll prove me wrong years down the line when Zegras decides to sign long-term or not, but I highly doubt it.
  23. The Angels “shafted” Mike Trout early in his career by renewing his contract without his consent which was perfectly legal under the CBA. He signed two big extensions with them despite the franchise being crap for most of his career. The Ducks manipulating service time will not even be a factor if Zegras wants to stay or go. The vast majority of the time players take the big bag of money when it’s offered to them, and when they don’t it’s not because, “they kept me from reaching UFA 1 year earlier. Screw them!” It won’t have any impact on how much it costs the Ducks to keep him either; that’ll be determined by all the other traditional factors.
