  1. Weird, Friedman thinks Anaheim tried to get #1 from Buffalo.
  2. Very smart. It’s a good trade for Columbus though.
  3. Wow, the Jones deal is looking even better for Columbus. It looks like they are getting a good young defenseman, 1st, 2nd, and swapping 1st’s for the higher pick. Come on Murray, get someone to overpay for Manson 😂
  4. https://twitter.com/IneffectiveMath/status/1418630932953772041?s=20 He’s not very good. Buffalo made out like bandits on this one. Can’t believe they got what they did for 1 year of him. I assume he has more reputation around the league than Manson does based on past history/draft status, and that would be a key reason Manson can’t fetch that kind of deal. It’s looking like Columbus got a great return for 1 year of Jones, though that’s a bit different since Jones is signing an extension and he’s a better player. Coyotes did well in their trade too. It would have been nice to get a top 15 pick for Manson though.
  5. If that’s true then there’s definitely some questionable picks by Seattle. It sure looked like a few teams got to keep a player or two that they wouldn’t want to lose in exchange for some assets going to Seattle.
  6. It’s pretty lame the side deals aren’t announced along with the picks. I suppose it’s possible teams have agreements with Seattle that require more time to play out, but I think the NHL should have placed a rule that everything has to be completed at the time their selections were due. Maybe that handcuffs Seattle more and takes some of the leverage off other teams and they didn’t want to do that to Seattle. I don’t know. I just know it’s lame that all the fans are sitting around waiting for who knows how long to see what really happened.
  7. Got to hope Murray doesn’t do something stupid to get rid of Henrique’s contract. So far he’s handled the expansion draft well if all we lost was Fluery or Hakanpaa + 6th round pick (whichever way you want to look at it). There really shouldn’t be any rush to do something with Henrique considering where the team is and the fact that he’s still productive. I wouldn’t even be surprised if Henrique could turn into a good asset down the line if the Ducks were willing to retain money in a trade, and his play doesn’t fall off a cliff.
  8. There’s no way. If Anaheim were to get a 2nd that would be a steal. Hopefully some GM is stupid enough to offer a 1st for him, and Murray is smart enough to accept. I just can’t believe he’s bringing a 1st back.
  9. Got the time to read McKenzie’s article. After reading it, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if Seattle did something different than Beniers at #2. To make his list, he talks to 10 NHL head scouts, and of those scouts 6 of them had someone else at #2. In all, 5 players were ranked #2 by at least one scout. It really seems like the only consensus is Power at #1, and then there’s decent consensus on a few guys in the top 5, but not necessarily at #2.
  10. Eklund has established himself as a consensus top 5 pick. Taking the two rankings you posted, and the ones aggregated on elite prospects, 13/15 have him in the top 5. 9/15 have him top 4. I hope the Ducks go with him or Guenther should the top 2 go how everyone thinks.
  11. Deslauriers being protected over Volkov and Heinen is criminal. I don’t think it’ll matter since I think Seattle will take Fluery/Mahura (unless Murray made a deal for someone else and he can protect whoever he wants no consequences), and I’m fine with that, but it just looks so stupid.
  12. If Murray gives up Perreault just to get rid of Henrique’s contract on a team that’s going nowhere soon anyway I will absolutely lose my ****.
  13. Shattenkirk would be a good player for Seattle to take. The Pacific division is terrible on paper next season, and I could see them making the playoffs if they have a decent expansion draft/offseason. Maybe they use their cap space and get Landeskog if he’s all about getting the most money. I’m sure the organization wants to try and replicate what Vegas did to give their new team a lot of buzz early, even if they won’t be able to get to their level as quickly. If things go south they can always flip him at the deadline and retain salary to get a nice asset back.
  14. Arvidsson has actually had two down years in a row. His cap hit of 4.25m for the next 3 years is a little high if this is the player he now is. If he regains his form it’s a pretty big steal for the Kings. I think a lot of teams closer to contention would love to do this trade, but so many are up against the cap and can’t afford to take it on.
  15. RNH’s cap hit is nice, but the term + NMC is terrible. He’ll be 36 at the end of that deal. If that same deal was offered to the Ducks there’s no way I’d want Murray to do it. Perhaps the only way I’d do that deal is if the Ducks looked to have a 3-4 year window where a #2C was the missing piece and he’d have a lot of talent around him. He’s starting an 8 year deal at age 28, so there’s no time to wait to start getting value out of him.
  16. Murray should be fired into the sun if he did that, and I’m not one of the ultra hate Murray people either.
  17. Good thing Habs won. That was a disgusting no call on Perry in OT. These refs should be banned from reffing anymore playoff games. Glad Vegas and their trash fanbase got what they deserved.
  18. He’s getting traded this summer so it’s buyer beware. That’s why people here are being negative about it. Even the best case scenario for the Ducks has its disadvantages. Let’s assume he’s healthy and puts up 90 points every season for the last 5 years of his contract (he’s never done this). That will be good enough with this roster to either just miss the playoffs or make them and get eliminated in the 1st few rounds. Now you have to find someway to get significantly better drafting further down in each round than you would without him, and you just traded significant players/assets to acquire him. That’s not easy. If I could look into the future and see that Eichel would stay healthy for 5 years and put up top 10 production I’d easily part with #3 and a few pieces for him. But I can’t, so there’s no way I trade the #3 overall for him right now. I’d be willing to take on the risk for Eichel for #34 overall and some pieces being tossed about here. If Buffalo wants 2022 1st, then I’d do that except cut the quality of pieces down significantly. Eichel has to be considered damaged goods right now, and damaged goods should get a very serious discount. #3 overall even in a draft like this should be off the table.
  19. There’s concerns about his ceiling. He’s one of the safest prospects in terms of getting a guy who you can pencil into your lineup, but there’s a chance he won’t be more than a #3 center. You don’t want to draft a #3 center with a top 5 pick if there’s another forward out there with a decent chance to be a top 6 player, and the rankings that have him lower are higher on other forwards.
  20. McKenzie’s list isn’t the final version yet, so we’ll see what that looks like soon. It’s interesting Button came out with that mock draft tonight. I hadn’t seen that until you mentioned it. Murray did have this to say about the draft in his state of the franchise press conference which you can read on the main site: “There are a couple of good young forwards in there.” Beniers is almost certainly one in his mind, but who is the other? Maybe we’ll find that out if we draft him in July. The fact that Murray mentioned that before the lottery is a good sign. If it’s close on his board between the players available at defense and offense at #3 then I hope we go forward. I’m starting to not even mind if we miss out on Beniers and pick another forward. I think the best thing about him is the fact that he’s pretty much a guarantee to play center at the NHL level. If you look at what he’s actually done at all levels of competition though, he’s never dominated the scoresheet. Even in the USHL he never put up more than a point-per-game. At international level, he never put up big numbers either. It seems like a few of the other forwards have a much higher offensive ceiling, but have more risk. If Beniers was available at #3 I’d be happy with the pick, but I’d still be a little concerned he might end up being a disappointment offensively, and one of those other forwards available end up being the best player in the draft.
  21. He seems interesting to me. I just posted this elsewhere on the board, but I’ll put it here too: I’m interested to see TSN’s McKenzie final list. I like that it’s built around consensus from NHL scouts. They had Dylan Guenther at #2 in April before the last big tournament of the year (U18 WJC). In that tournament he put up 7 pts in 7 games with 4 goals. His 1st year in the WHL he put up 59 pts in 58 games, and now in his draft year he went 12-12=24 in 12 games. He was on pace for over 100 points in a full season. Guys who do that pretty much are always selected #1 or #2 in the draft if there’s no random concern, injury or otherwise.

  23. This draft is so blah I barely care that we moved from #2 to #3. The only player I’m somewhat confident in that has a decent floor is Beniers, and even he might just turn out to be a good defensively responsible 3C that puts up 15-20G and 40-45 pts a year. I’m assuming he’ll go #1 or #2. Who knows how it turns out, but at least right now I hope Power doesn’t “fall” to us. If he doesn’t develop an offensive game at the NHL level he’ll be a huge bust for such a high pick. He’ll basically be Erik Gudbranson (#3 overall in his draft year). I hope we get lucky with whoever we pick, and we actually end up getting a “surprise” hugely impactful player when none were really supposed to be available.
  24. If there was a clear top 2 like a lot of years this would suck, but it doesn’t even matter this year.
  25. This is just a replacement for McNabb who retired. He seems to be tasked with all the roles McNabb did. It seems like a lateral move for him, but maybe also getting the assistant GM title was valuable to him. Perhaps he has eyes on becoming a GM someday and thinks this could help him.
