  1. I think Ducks could do something along the lines of what the rangers did when they got Panarin. I'm not saying we're going to get someone like him but looking at the rangers they made a big splash and then seemed like it wasn't going as fast as they wanted to in their rebuild but it definitely sped up the rebuild process. I think we're poised to do something similar. Not 10 mil+ worth but adding Fiala would be a big boost. I feel like we're not going to be a bottom 10 team next year if Gibson stays because I think PV will make some decent moves. If Gibson leaves I think we're a bottom 10 team, maybe bottom 5 team in the league for sure.

All I'm saying is that he is an average/slightly above average goalie on a bad team.  If he was an elite goalie/Top 10 goalie on a bad team, his Sv% and GAA would not be in the lower 10% of the league for guys who are playing significant minutes/games.

And if you are really good or great for 25 or so games, and then bad for 25 or so games, that makes you average.  Out of his last 25 games this season he posted a sub .900 Sv% in 15 of those.

Gibson played 56 games this past season and Stolarz played 28.  Behind the same team.

    Stolarz, 2.67 GAA, .917 Sv%, 12-8-3

    Gibson, 3.19 GAA, .904 Sv%, 18-26-11

And Stolarz didn't start against all tomato can teams: EDM, STL, VGK, CGY, PIT, NYR, TBL, LAK, MIN

Yeah I can't see this as true. Gibson has nights where he straight carries the team. They only thing he can't do is score goals. An average to slightly above average goaltender doesn't do those things. Sure any goalie can get hot but it's just visible that it's not some fluke. Besides an average goalie doesn't get mentioned by his peers as being a top goaltender in this league. Yeah there's the numbers that show he's not having good seasons but the players say otherwise, which I'd put far more interest in because they're the ones that play in the league and know who's really good or not.

  3. This debate has no end. Lol

Look Gibby is not a generational goalie we need to scale our expectations for "stealing games... oops I mean seasons". Because that's what it is right? You all want him to just carry the team to the playoffs? Obviously his stats are going to be at or near the bottom because we've been bad for the past three years.

What we need is a better team. He carries us for the first half of the year until he cannot anymore. Yeah his overall season stats suck because the second half weighs him down. Didn't the players themselves vote Gibson as a top 5 goalie?

Besides he and Anderson won the Jennings back when we were still a good team. He's got potential but our defense is junk and unless PV seriously upgrades, it will be more of the same. Good start then it tails off...

  4. Has anyone been following the worlds? I honestly forgot it was going on. I went to look up when it started and was surprised it's been going since May 13th lol

Anyway, not a whole lot of ducks. And they haven't really done much. Looking at the top lists it's good to know we have someone in the top 5!

.... for penalty minutes.... but nonetheless!

    Comtois, thank you!

I think there's probably some of both here.  On the one hand, you have to admit that when you have a bad track record with a certain course of action, it's going to influence later decision-making (and it should).  You also have to admit that, because of the KHL and some of the contract complexity that comes with it, drafting Russian players carries more risk than drafting a North American player or even a Western European player.  I wouldn't be surprised if both Burke and Murray had old school views of Russian hockey players that led them to make decision just to abandon that whole area and spend their resources elsewhere.  Some of the reasoning had merit, some probably didn't.  In total, it was probably a bad call to just ignore it altogether.

Right but Jokerit, a Finnish club, was also in the KHL but I don't think Finnish players are viewed in the same way. Overall, I'd say that we focused more on Swedish players and NA during the BM years. Idk of that was just resources or whatnot but hopefully we're able to expand on our scouting to not just include Russians but be able to make better picks in general from whatever nationality they may be from. Because if we're limiting who we choose from then we're already behind the 8 ball.

Here is the compete list by the way:

  6. Here is a list of all players (former ussr countries) that have played for the ducks. Now granted most of these played only a handful of games and almost all of these were pre BM years.

    Evgeny Artyukhin- Moscow, Russia

    Maxim Balmochnykh- Lipetsk, Russia

    Maxim Bets- Chelyabinsk, Russia

    Ilya Bryzgalov- Togliatti, Russia

    Vyacheslav Butsayev- Tolyatti, Russia

    Stanislav Chistov- Chelyabinsk, Russia

    Sergei Fedorov- Pskov, Russia

    Anatoli Fedotov- Saratov, Russia

    Valeri Karpov- Chelyabinsk, Russia

Alexei Kasatonov- Leningrad (St. Petersburg), Russia

    Anton Khudobin- Ust-Kamenogorsk, Kazakhstan

    Maxim Kondratiev- Togliatti, Russia

    Sergei Krivokrasov- Angarsk, Russia

    Oleg Mikulchik- Minsk, Belarus

    Dmitri Mironov- Moscow, Russia

    Andrei Nazarov- Chelyabinsk,  Russia

    Igor Nikulin- Cherepovets, Russia

    Roman Oksiuta- Murmansk, Russia

    Ruslan Salei- Minsk, Belarus

    Petr Schastlivy- Vikhorevka, Russia

    Anatoli Semenov- Moscow,  Russia

    Mikhail Shtalenkov- Moscow, Russia

    Alexei Smirnov- Tver, Russia

    German Titov- Moscow, Russia

    Nikolai Tsulygin- Ufa, Russia

    Oleg Tverdovsky- Donetsk, Ukraine

    Vitaly Vishnevsky- Kharkiv, Ukraine

    Alexander Volkov- Moscow, Russia

So basically we haven't really had many impact level guys from that area. And a lot of these guys are 'who?!' Lol

Many fans are celebrating both the player AND the contract terms. A few seasons ago under different management, a 30-year-old 4th liner gets 3 x $1.5M. Now we get one for 2 x $850K. Progress!!

Grant doesn't have good advanced stats sure but it's not like he hasn't done anything at all. He's having a good statistical season. He seems to get a lot of hate. If he had a two year contract that would have been better but considering the price he's generally lived up to his contract.

Man, it was just the amount of straight up incorrect things Melrose said that bugged me...I don't think he's intentionally not trying...but he definitely didn't put in the research or effort....

I like Leah Hextall's energy...and I love how exited she gets when something exciting happens! It's a new voice though, she has a very different timbre than what hockey fans are used to...I think it'll just take some getting used to and in another year or so it'll be basically fine/the norm to hear with ESPN's broadcast.

I like Aly Lozon's voice. I feel like her voice is better suited for a commentator.

I saw so much of this, but I guess they struck me differently.

Whoever had the momentum, they'd focus on them.  They specfically talked about Kings getting the first 5 SOG, then when Ducks got 7 SOG in a row, they pointed it out specficially and started talking about how they flipped it.

I mean, they were rightfully praising Quick.  I mean, you gotta call it as you see it, and he was certainly the star.

Idk for me they came off as kings homers. If there was another broadcast I'd rather watch that instead but there wasn't.

I  think she’s been better than most other broadcasters this year. She’s a fun listen and has good energy. Mel rose was awful last game. Maybe it’s just how brutal Hazy and AHLers have been this year. She makes mistakes, but it’s her first year and she does it for all 32 teams, so I think it’s natural for some learning.

I think she's trying and she has also improved since the beginning of the year.

Man, the hate Leah Hextall gets is insane. Feel bad for her

Some people just have a good voice and personality on the radio/tv, I'm not a fan of hers. But last time the ducks broadcast on national tv was pretty junk too. Melrose and that other dude were pretty much kings homers and weren't that interesting to listen to.

but isn't that what jersey retirements are supposed to be? essentially the HOF for the team??? We shouldn't be retiring some jersey number 'cause of how a player was for other teams...(which does point the question to why we retired Scotty.......which I was a little confused to see when they first announced it).

There's no cup without Giguere. He is franchise leading in games played, wins, shutouts...tied with Gibson for longest tenure with the Ducks (9 years) . He got a Conn Smythe with this team. If Gibson is traded in the off-season, Jiggy will continue to lead all of this for a LONG time. And no one is going to be wearing 35.

Perry is 2nd in goals, 2nd in games played, 3rd in assists, 3rd in pts, 3rd longest tenure...all ahead of PK. No one will be wearing #10 ever again in Anaheim. When you think Getzlaf, you also think Perry. When you see #15 up there...it's gonna be weird to NOT see #10. Just like how #8 felt weird without #9.

I don't think we retired his Jersey because of how he played for NJ. The way I see it is we might not win the cup without him. He was a huge part in the cup run and was arguably the best captain we'd had to that point. He stabilized the franchise and probably helped Getzy become the captain he is today. I personally think retiring his number was the right move. He wasn't here for long but he had a really big long lasting impact on the club which is really a solid legacy. Some guys aren't able to do that over the course of a decade.

as much as I reeeeeaaaaalllllly want Vegas to not make the playoffs.....them making it and LA not would be a nice consolation prize....

No way. I hope Vegas falls flat on their faces. They're going to be in cap trouble and LA probably won't do much in the playoffs anyway. Besides it will be one gigantic LOL if it does happen given the cap shenanigans they're trying to pull.

but like...with what expectation? Wants a full year to address how Eakins does with a team that probably wont be expected to make the playoffs? So, how/when do you know to fire him? If the team is meeting expectations aka not making the playoffs...seems like it's not a real evaluation. I dunno.

Unless the expectation is to make the playoffs next season...in which case....GMPV has a very busy off season to make that happen........

Although I do think you're right, I think Verbeek did hear positive things and I bet every player in that locker room does love Eakins. Especially Grant.

The one year thing doesn't make any sense to me either. If he does good somehow he'd be resigned I'm assuming, which I don't even want to think about. But hasn't he already shown enough over three years to either warrant an extension or not? DE is who he is, he's not magically going to change. Plus our roster seems like it could be worse next year so how is he going to be evaluated if he's our coach of the future?

Is the strategy to wait out another year to see if a better coach comes along?

Yzerman has retained Blashill since he came to the wings and I came across this article when searching for Blashill that I find interesting. Perhaps this is what PV is planning to do....

  15. Hmmm so I've looked up Terry's stats and compared them with Rakell's. Here's what I got:

Rakell stats when we signed his 6 yr x 3.8 mil

    165-29-49-78. .473 ppg

    Terry including current season
    194-46-59-105. .541 ppg

    Terry before this season

    129-15-33-48.  .372 ppg

Terry's stats have really risen because of his play this season. Rakell went on to have two 30+ goal seasons AFTER he signed his contract. Terry also has scored more points this year than his previous production combined. I was thinking earlier that Terry could sign a 5x6 contract but compared to Rakell I'm not so sure anymore. I mean the prices have risen sure but it seems like currently I think compared the Ricky's contract he's somewhere in the 6x5 range. I think it's possible this is likely his current extension offer. If he does bank on himself having a really solid year next year he could make a lot more than that. Perhaps a 6x7-7.5?

The more I think about this, the more I lean towards Henrique as my choice for a short-term captaincy (not that I have a choice! lol). Rico is already the Ducks' NHLPA representative, so you'd assume he's got some reverence in the locker room as a guy who is looking out for the players' best interests. He also plays up and down the top-9, and on both the PK and PP, so he's a guy who's seen it all from all areas of the ice. The players seem to really love him in the locker room too (I'm basing this mostly on players' reactions to him being benched and waived last season). He's also only under contract for two more seasons after this one, which would seem like an appropriate timeline for the organization to figure out who it's next cornerstone player will be.

I agree he's a good candidate but I still think it's going to be either Terry or Fowler. Right now I think those are the top two choices for me. Henrique is a strong candidate, especially considering he captained the world championships last year.

  17. Now that we know Getzy is gone after this season we're going to look very different come this off season. We now lose two of our top 6 F and 2 top 4 D not to mention we were already fairly weak in both areas. And if Gibby wants out?

I think McT makes the team next season. I don't see how he doesn't. Unless we trade for someone in the off season with all the picks we got, maybe even at the draft, we're going to need to pick up legit guys in the UFA. I gotta admit, I'm not really sure who's even out there. But who do we target?

Watching Getzlaf completely take over a game many times throughout the years, is what ill always remember when people bring him up. Guy had a switch, and when he turned it on, he was unstoppable. Willing the team Single handed to many wins. He's won & at every level . 1000 points, 1000
games, 2 Olympic golds, world junior gold, Stanley Cup champion, World Cup gold. Easy HOF induction
Love you Getz, glad to call you our captain and my favorite player all of these years. Your jersey will be up in the rafters in no time. Good luck with the retirement, you will be missed.

Id personally rather see both 15 and 10 lifted up together.

I think the CF calculator is very accurate.  Most likely not precise, and again, individuals can help their tax situations, but as far as determining what money is being held back on each paycheck, I think it's really close to actual.

Ah that makes sense. Sorry I must have been writing that post at the time you posted yours so I didn't see it. You're right that it's taking a generalization of the population and individual taxes and brackets would vary as would guys salaries who make minimum salary in the nhl vs guys who make 10 mil +. Idk I still think it's probably closer than the 3.9 mil difference over the course of 8 years. It's still probably significant because you're right the CF site is probably fairly accurate.
