    I’d be shocked if the players didn’t know well in advance of the public announcement that they would be qualified. Plus, I’d figure that Verbeek has already engaged in preliminary talks on extensions or contacted agents so I thinks a total non issue

    It's also not as though the Ducks were the only team waited until the deadline got closer before announcing who would or wouldn't be getting them. Seems like most teams did it that way.

    You have to tender a QO in order to keep the rights to a restricted free agent or else they can go straight to UFA. Players don't have to sign and Zegras, Terry and Drysdale won't. It was just a formality so that the Ducks can keep their rights while negotiating their next contracts

    So what does everyone give the Ducks as a draft grade? I’m going B-/C+ range. That second round really hurt imo

    Gaucher has been great for what he is, a defense forward/pest and penalty killer which I’ve said isn’t his problem. He at least has the defensive game game down but is similar to Myatovich (sounds like the winger version of gaucher) in that the Ducks drafted guys with maybe a bottom six upside so high in the draft when way more offensive talent was available. Verbeek better bring in actual legit top-6 forwards from outside the organization because he sure looks like he isn’t trying to draft any, sans Carlsson.

    I respect Madden's honesty but the logic behind that pick is terrible. No need to try and feel better about it. Really making Getzlaf's new job as Development Coordinator hard right from the start

    Verbeek must be very confident that he can develop minimal upside guys into mainstay NHLers. He left so much value on the draft floor imo

    Madden works for the Ducks and he lives Montreal, I believe. Sure sounded like in his interview on Duckstream that Getzlaf is a Nashville resident even if he’s got properties elsewhere

    In more terrible news, heard that Getzlaf lives in Nashville now. Just another kick in the hacky sacks today.

    None of the drafted d-men this year may ever see the NHL at all and are a couple years away at minimum if they do. Fowler will be gone as well other guys traded due to a log jam so I don’t see this draft class creating a problem there imo
