  1. Friedman is probably just reporting from these boards. Knowing what we’ve all been resigned to know for a while
  2. We may not know the specifics of his prior duties but I’m sure that the samuelis and the task force in charge of the GM search do. If he wasn’t tasked with rebuilding the team then what could ownership task him with? I can’t see ownership being so delusional that the Ducks had a quick path back contending or even the playoffs and if they were then I hope guys in the rafters told them the harsh truth
  3. My maybe too simplistic take has been that if you hire a new GM to rebuild your team then you need to give them the flexibility and most importantly the time to do that. Maybe Verbeek can’t cook the noodles properly and we can criticize his meal prep decisions but I think he’s got two more seasons to show that the Ducks are on a path to sustained future success before we start storming the gates or the Samuelis start to consider ousting him.
  4. The only reason I don’t see that happening is that he’s going to get at least two seasons of Cronin behind the bench. If this team is at 80 points this season then Cronin should also win the Jack Adams. The Samuelis don’t seem like the types to just jettison Verbeek that after two full seasons. He just got his coaching hires and they are going to give that time to play out.
  5. If the Ducks aren’t showing an improvement and path forward by the end of 2024-25 season then I think Verbeek’s seat should start getting hot. I agree that He’s been too similar to Murray for my liking.
  6. We'll find out in in the next 2-3 seasons. I've maintained that the Ducks needed to tear down the roster more than Murray was willing to do. I think Verbeek doing that and moving on from players was the right game plan. the execution is always the hard part. There was no easy or quick way back to contending imo. My theory is that the Ducks would been better trading Fowler, but since they couldn't, Lindholm was going to get moved. I didn't see the Ducks weren't going to pay both of them long-term. How much time should Verbeek get before concluding whether he was right or should be fired? (some people on here seem to think he should already be gone).
  7. Fitzgerald has been impressive and the Devils were bad for two and a half years before breaking out this year. So, Verbeek still has a year left to suck before he hits that timeline. TF also had a top-4 pick 2021. Verbeek if by 2024-25 the ducks are still bad then Verbeek probably doesn’t last much longer
  8. I was responding to a post that was complimentary about Yzerman’s tenure in Detroit compared to Verbeek in Anaheim. I want a clone of Tampa Bay. If Yzerman wasn’t a beloved franchise icon, then I think he’d be under far more scrutiny in Detroit. I don’t know how many GM’s in recent history create drastic turnarounds to rebuilding teams in 2-3 seasons. Maybe the rangers? But they never bottomed out the way the ducks did. Verbeek has his coaching hire (which he owns more than Eakins imo) so I think he’ll get a full season to see how that comes together and then start facing pressure to show that they are trending towards the playoffs in 2024-2025.
  9. The Ducks hole was dug well before Verbeek got here (see: 2018-2022 seasons). Detroit hasn't made the playoffs under Yzerman's four full years though and is a borderline wild card team at best going into this season. He's made some questionable signings (Copp, Chairot, Maatta, Compher) also. He's going to need guys that he drafted (Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson, Kasper et al) to develop and be really good. What happens if Detroit misses the playoffs for a fifth straight year under Yzerman? Would you advocate for him to be fired? Verbeek hasn't even had two full years on the job yet. Well, to be honest, it's always been a premature and nonsense topic to have at this point. Also, who said that Verbeek was going to be a savior? The people defending him are saying it's way too early to pass judgment given the situation that he came into and he needs time to build the kind of team that he wants.
  10. They were never going to be in a position to compete for a playoff spot this year regardless though. The majority of the prospects, outside McTavish (assuming he doesn’t have a sophomore slump) are going to be in SD and aren’t ready for the NHL. Maybe someone like Zellweger really pops off but it’s a marathon not a sprint especially with brand new head coaches (that are an actual Verbeek hires). I’ll get the AHL tv package this year to watch the prospect influx there. If Carlsson goes back to Sweden and doesn’t stick with the Ducks then that’s fine (unless Fantilli puts up a Calder level season!). 99.99% of players don’t go from the draft floor to the NHL and never look back
  11. I agree that he wouldn’t play with Zegras, Terry. It’s not necessarily about prevention in the moment but rather eventually extracting a price if someone went over the line. If a player wants to take runs/cheap shots at Zegras and Terry, no one is stopping that but the Ducks can’t sit back and let that go unanswered, which IICR is what happened for beagle and the coyotes. Killorn and Gudas add more toughness and Kassian may simply not make the team. They are still a pretty soft and don’t have enough good players. Henrique will be gone soon but I thought it was pretty noteworthy that he said it. GM’s need to have a feel of the locker room and get feedback from players. There is a Semenko factor that is still around. Given where the Ducks are (not close to the playoffs) having someone take a roster spot who isn’t going to let young guys get punked isn’t a bad idea imo.
  12. If a player like Henrique is saying those kind of players are actually useful and good for the locker room, then it’s harder to dismiss. I don’t think he’s just staying just his own opinion but rather reporting on the dynamic in the locker room and what it meant on the ice. What do you do if your team needs and actually wants a player that isn’t particularly good at actually playing hockey? Look at Ryan Reaves who is in that category as well. He is still in the league because that’s his main role
  13. If anything, it’s a move to show Terry that they are trying to protect him, especially after he signed his extension lol. He’s the one who got his face caved in
  14. It maybe a coincidence but Adam Henrique was on a podcast last week and addressed the need for guys like D-Lo (or a Kassian) on a team in the wake of Terry getting suckered by Beagle. It’s only a PTO but still interesting given the timing. https://x.com/andystrickland/status/1694063458508018106?s=46&t=_KxXwe-XL6ooamouV3tV8w
  15. https://x.com/anaheimducks/status/1697273587416375762?s=46&t=_KxXwe-XL6ooamouV3tV8w looks like we are trying to fill that D-Lo void
  16. Definitely Agree. I’ve said it before, he’s got the most California personality for someone not from the state. I think he genuinely likes it here.
  17. I can understand Zegras being anti-murray and thankfully that raging lunatic is gone. Though, It would be hard to for me believe that Murray pulling that accrual stunt (as if other teams wouldn’t do it either) is a driving force for Zegras not wanting to be here long term
  18. We are going to a bridge deal with him lol. I wish Verbeek luck if he ultimately forces one the most upcoming, marketable players in the sport out of Anaheim though
  19. Yeah, the team took that opportunity to lock up a franchise caliber player with the belief it would be a bargain. So far, he’s been exactly that. Hughes took the security which you can’t blame him for, peace of mind is real. If he’s a 70-80 point player going forward (I think he’ll be higher) then that seems right in line with what he’s making and still solid for New Jersey. Zegras is a completely different story and unlike Hughes, he’s going to bet on himself imo
  20. Hughes signed early in the 2021 season (November) after coming back from an injury then went on to have 56 points in 49 games. If he had just waited 5 months to re-sign after the season when his ELC was up, how much do you think he gets on an 8-year deal? Probably closer to 9 and if he had bridged then he’s looking to potentially get 11 mil next summer if he puts up another 90+ pt season. He’s already lost millions of dollars by signing too early imo. So, Hughes is a cautionary tale for his close friend Zegras about maximizing his earning potential. Signing a bridge deal is Zegras’ best path imo. Hughes putting up 43 g and 99 points last season was a surprise but him eventually hitting those marks at shouldn’t have been. He was a very highly touted first overall pick and now the Devils might have one of the most bargain contracts in the league
  21. So, a cursory look at the rule says a “player on an entry-level contract is 18 or 19 (as of Sept 15) their entry level contract is slide eligible. This means their team may choose to return them to junior and avoid using a year of their contract” Luneau turned 19 in January, so if he signs after 9/15, my reading is that his contract would not be slide eligible. Him not wanting his contract to slide could be the hold up to him signing. Thoughts? I hope it’s that’s the case at least lol The timeline would match up perfectly with him signing after the rookie tournament which is will take place from 9/15 - 9/18 or training camp.
  22. Could be but then that would bring up the obvious question of why the eff hasn’t he been offered one. From the Ducks perspective, I just can’t think of any reason why they wouldn’t offer him his ELC.
  23. That’s why you don’t let him leave Anaheim without signing or him telling you that he won’t. I put it at 95% that he signs but it seems every other team would have it done already.
  24. It seems like a very very rare occurrence coming from the CHL. Luneau recently attended the rookie camp also. I can’t recall a more recent example. If he’s at the rookie tournament in three weeks then I’m pretty certain that he will sign.
